Take heed... Most brugs do not come true from seed. Species plants bred with the same species will come true. Any crossing are a genetic crap shoot. That is why named cultivars are propagated by cuttings. That way each plant is a genetic duplicate of the "parent" plant. They will have the same characteristics. And generally will be self infertile. Take 100 seeds from a known cross and grow them all out. There may be none that are exactly like the named cultivar from that same previous crossing. Then again, there might be. Or it might be similar but have subtle differences. Odds are, most will be a simple white bloom, regardless of the parents. So be careful what you buy. You may not end up with what you thought you would.

Have your 'in the ground' brugsmansia leafed out yet?

Mine is not in the ground but in a very huge container. I didn't get it moved into the garage this year so I figured I would lose it but I guess the mild winter saved it. It has some very nice leaves on it now and I have to say I am tickled pink about it. I'm a fairly new gardner and last year I planted a lot of perennials. It has been like Christmas everyday now because I keep finding new stuff coming up. I've drug my poor DH outside to look at tiny undefinable leaves at least 2 dozen times this month. Who needs anti-depressants with all of this!!!! LOL Cindy

Hi there Is anyone out there growing this and has collected any seeds? It is not really a brugmansia just looks like it in miniture. It has small blue trumpet shaped flowers. Clippings would work fine too. If anyone has this please let me know I will search your want list and find something you need. Thanks so much Bea

That is so lovely. I think they are a most elegant flower.

Cheers,

If that's the one you've shown us before when younger, Jan, then it's definitely a winner and improving with age. Mine are tubbed and awfully spindly, so perhaps I should take heart and have a big chop-back. Wonderful flowers on yours.

Our two most recent brugmansias are coming into bloom for the first time at the moment... stunning plants, we hope to collect more of them. Do you know the variety name of that one jan/john? It looks like one worth getting. I just bought a nice book on them, Brugmansia and Datura: Angel's Trumpets and Thorn Apples by Ulrike Preissel, ISBN: 1552095584
