So in a sense is that article saying this is still somewhat a form of M. elongata? Kind of but.... In a nut shell the article tells us that your plant isn't a Mam. when under the plant ID microscope Meaning. .... it only looked like Elongata to me and as you said it may of been called a Sp.type of Elongata back in the earlier days of cacti naming could be reason why Rose also left a proper ID. The article explains more modern tools where used and who used them to properly ID and classify your named cacti and some others where found to have the same DNA as yours. It also explained the DNA structure of certain plants AND of your plant Sp. In DNA comparison to yours are to different for either M. elongata and yours to both be the same Sp of cacti. It is required to show/ explain the written proof amongst colleges but they dont need to show and tell ALL of us the DNA of any plant. Article also tells us that DNA is different enough to give any plant under the ID microscope warrants a true and then realistically ID or name. Then I go on at babbling about how many cacti get new names so fast it's hard to keep track of them all and they still continue to confuse us as fast as they can... Meaning I cant wait for ALL plants to have bar codding either. Until then.... Rose who still wears the GW cacti and succulent ID crown also shares some brief and IMO good information via another internet forum style webb site. Thank you so much. I looked up Cinnoman Girl and yes, I think that is it. The color is more of a russet than a rose but it is beautiful. This is the first one of grandpa's collection that has bloomed. This is the story. I am the president of a garden club in our small community in the PNW. I received a call from a woman who said that her grandfather was unable to take care of his beloved iris' and wanted her to find a home for them. When I picked them up (litterally a truck load)she told me that her grandfather had collected, grown and hyberdized his iris'as a hobby and that they were all colors, etc. So, I took them to the club meeting and everyone took what they wanted. One of our members owns a bulb company so she took a lot of them because she has the room to grow them. I took what was left and put most of them in pots because I am building a house and renting until this fall. My specialty is roses but after seeing this beautiful gift I was given I may have a new obsession (I mean hobby). Seventeen of the tubers I potted up have buds and will bloom soon. Each one will be a surprise so you will be hearing from me. And yes, I love to share so as soon as I know what I have, I love to devide and conquer. Thank you again. It makes me so sad to think of grandpa having to give up his hobby. Something that at 60 I am not ready to face. Patti
