varigated impatiens

i have been trying to locate varigated impatiens for some time in oz (not the new guinea ones, the walleriana ) if someone has an idea where i can buy these i would be grateful.also ive been looking for impatiens capensis and jewelweed seeds.i cant believe such common plants in other parts of the world are not in oz. cheers lorraine

Hi Lozza,
I don't know what state you live in. In a lot of places impatiens are a total weed and you cannot buy them. I'm in Melbourne and can readily buy variegated impatiens and others. I'm not sure about jewelweed. According to my sources that is a common name for either Impatiens capensis or I. glandulifera. I don't know about the availability of these, but would guess you might have some luck at herb farms or on-line herb suppliers, because they are used in some medicinal manner.

Thanks for your email Lozza, The place I saw the variegated impatiens was Bunnings. I wish I had bought one then because it was so pretty. I looked the other day and they don't have them anymore. It was quite sometime ago when I saw them there. Have you tried asking at any nurseries about availability? Sorry I have not been of much help,

Yah, I'm actually aware of that, and I don't want anything too too crazy... leaf varigation and what not... Looks like Vessey Seeds carries mixed, pink, red and white of the Divine Series you mentioned. I ordered from Hazzard seed last year and they have an okay selection - I grew the Coral Flame and although they were great, they were varying foliage - some were green some were bronze... I'd like to get something with less variation within the color and more varieties of colors... if you catch my drift. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Thanks for responding. I'm excited to see what color blooms also. I still think it's really strange that it came up variegated since I've never seen one before. By the way, I checked out your website the other day and was absolutely blown away....Some of the blooms look just like orchids to me. You really have an awesome collection, and I love the informative website.

Rebecca Kolls featured these recently on her HGTV show.I loved the foliage.she showed a red one was called stars& stripes I think she said.(web page don't even show the variegated form or mention much about it)she said the flowers are smaller and does not bloom as heavy as the regular ones.She showed growing herbs in those wire hanging baskets.I thought of buying 2 and hooking them together and filling with spanish moss and growing a whole big ball of the variegated ones.I have just the shady spot on my porch for them. I enjoyed your pics...nice close ups

Your lobelia is doing well and the single imps are doing well but your doubles aren't? Impatiens can actually stand some sun. I have found doubles to be a lot more difficult than the singles. They will drop blooms and blossoms readily with any change in environment. 90 degree weather is tough on impatiens as well. If the lobelia, singles and doubles are in the same pot and the lobelia and singles are doing well then I would just keep doing what your doing. Doubles are a lot more difficult - it may be too damp for them... Every year I get pulled into the doubles because they have a beautiful varigated double bloom imp I can't resist - but it never does as well as the singles. I notice you posted this a while ago - what have you done and what have they been doing since?

Hi Lozza,
Just got home frome Bunnings (Chirnside Park). They had some variegated impatiens with the double flower in a bright pink for $6.98, I'm not sure if you ever found any.
