Hi Alison, Good to hear from you. I actually do have a Greyia sutherlandii now, but thank you so much for the offer. Interesting you posting at this time. I gave one of your Caesalpinia peltophoroides seedlings to one of the guys from the Jungle (Peter) and now he's looking for seeds for a nursery friend. I have two left--one is still in a pot and the other I planted out in April. I also have two seedlings of the Tabebuia roseo-alba from the seeds you sent me. I'm going to plant one of those out in the Spring too. If you run into Grant...tell him that I got ONE seed of Deplanchea tetraphylla to germinate and that plant is now about two feet tall. I'll be putting that in the ground next Spring too. I want to thank you both for your generosity. I found a seed source of Alloxylon flammeum on eBay OZ and I'm going to try that next Spring. I've also got a little Buckinghamia celsissima growing and thriving in the ground. Many different kinds of Australian natives do very well here in SoCal. -Ron-

Hi Chardy, Diploglottis berniana, Deplanchea (tetraphylla). Mis(ch)ocarpus grandissimus Franscisodendron laurifloia (Franciscodendron laurifolium) As Grant mentioned yes Yuruga however Deplanchea and D. berniana are often available from specialist nurseries down south. Franciscodendron is rarely available. All these species can be grown in moist areas in QLD. Good luck Why stop there!

I've got a small Strophanthus speciosus and S. petersianus (which are bushes). I'm also looking for S. boivinii which is a spectacular small tree when in bloom. Alison, I've just planted out a week or so ago a small Caesalpinia peltophoroides which I started from seed you sent me almost two years ago. I also have two small Tabebuia roseo-alba seedlings from a batch of seeds you sent me around the same time. And last, but certainly not least, I have one small (about 10 inches) Deplanchea seedling that I started from seed that Laurabada sent me. -Ron-

California. In the 1850s Eucalyptus trees were introduced to California by Australians travelling to California during the California Gold Rush. Much of California has a similar climate to parts of Australia. By the early 1900s thousands of acres of eucalypts were planted with the encouragement of the state government. It was hoped that they would provide a renewable source of timber for construction and furniture making. They went on to note that the promise of eucalyptus in California was based on the old virgin forests of Australia. This was a mistake as the young trees being harvested in California could not compare in quality to the centuries-old eucalyptus timber of Australia. It reacted differently to harvest. The older trees didn't split or warp as the infant California crop did. There was a vast difference between the two, and this would doom the California eucalyptus industry.[11] One way in which the eucalyptus, mainly the blue gum E. globulus, proved valuable in California was in providing windbreaks for highways, orange groves, and other farms in the mostly treeless central part of the state. They are also admired as shade and ornamental trees in many cities and gardens. Eucalyptus forests in California have been criticised because they compete with native plants and do not support native animals. Fire is also a problem. The 1991 Oakland Hills firestorm which destroyed almost 3,000 homes and killed 25 people was partly fueled by large numbers of eucalypts in the area close to the houses.[12] In some parts of California eucalypt forests are being removed and native trees and plants restored. Individuals have also illegally destroyed some trees and are suspected of introducing insect pests from Australia which attack the trees.[13]
