identify bromeliad

hi out there,it is good to be here.I an a bromeliad lover and get frustrated when I can't name some.Living 130kl from town makes it a bit hard too as a few growers and sellers I know are happy to help but getting there,wow hey!.I am hoping someone out there can help. I was given a pile of these lovely plants and one had a billberger type flower hanging down(wilting) with burgundy towards the tips of plant and vertical whitish lines outside. Also does anyone know if and how to put pictures on here as I'd like to put one of the plant and one of my beautiful companion GIDGET, a king charles spaniel and best friend( apart from my lovely husband) on as soon as I can, Cheers jenmort

Try the International Bromeliad Society website gallery for lots of pictures to help identification
Post a picture through the OZGallery, it has to be under 61 kb, there are prompts that guide you through the process.

Welcome Gordon, It is nice to see that you got a house thrown in with the Bromeliads that you bought. I don't know if you have been to FCBS.org but the photo index there may help you out. The link below should take you to the Neo search engine page of FCBS where you can put in the names that you have listed and compare them with online photos. It is good to see that you are trying to name them, may I suggest that if you do find a correct name use a good tag system - HB pencil on plastic tags works OK, some permanent markers work well others fade away after six month, I tried wooden paddle pop sticks which worked great until the wood rotted, I'm now using aluminium tags and engraving them. I don't know, Cherie, and it's hard to tell how true the colors are in your photo, but Hummel did a number of Aechmea hybrids that look similar to that. Check out both pages of the link below, particularly Ae. Bastantha, Candy Corn, Electra, Gigant, Hiawatha, Montezuma and Rajah, and see if any of them looks like a match to you.
