Deadhead the spent flower. E.g. cut the small pedicel (miniature stalk which holds the flower to the stem) off but let the main flower stem (with leaves) stay. This flower stem is needed to conduct photosynthesis and recharge the plant for next year. Fertilize now if you have not already done so. I am sorry that I don't have a picture with spent flowers, so I used a lilly in full bloom. Obviously you should not cut flowers/buds off before they mature (wither and die), but the picture below will show you where to cut approximately.

Thats right Bill, I didn't realize that I posed the question with the picture of the Lilly at the time. The reason I asked again was (1)that I forgot the fist post and (2) I was intrigued by an answer on Google that the MASTER! of an english garden society in 1898 could not elicit an answer from his members.There have been many HMS Scarboroughs and perhaps the name came from them The tea roses are so called because they came in on the Tea Clippers from ASia, We're starting to see Spring bulbs emerging..
