I will offer my opinion as a plant enthusiast. J. humile is a shrub but the new branches tend to grow viny like in growing habit. Trim it if you want the plant to grow more as a shrub. When one could afford the room to accommodate all those viny branches and support them or just, as you say, let them 'Ramble'. To minimize the yellow leaves ;- Water the plant thoroughly with each and every watering. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

It sounds like your Jasmine plant was tagged correctly, the 'Revolutum' is the cultivar (windeaux' statement above, "identical (to) the species, but with larger leaves & more fragrant flowers") is a description of that cultivar. This information was on the Theatrum Botanicum website: "Grows to 20' and is almost tree- or large bush-like in form. Has loose clusters of fragrant 1" yellow flowers sporadically throughout the year. One of the hardiest jasmines; should do fine in most of coastal California. I've seen a tree-like specimen over 12' tall in the Berkeley Botanical Gardens. Tropical Asia." With that in mind, windeuax' statement that his/her plant 'struggled pathetically' as an indoor plant makes perfect sense, as it's considered 'one of the hardiest jasmines'....so it sounds as though it needs a cooler place, (sort of identical to the zones in which it's hardy) during part of the year. Do you have a cool or unheated room or an unheated porch where you could place it during the winter? I have several plants that I grow on my unheated sunporch during the winter months....some are deciduous and some are evergreen.....that I *know* would never tolerate growing in my home during the winter because of their hardiness....if that makes any sense, LOL!? Sort of like trying to grow a Hosta indoors (without the benefit of a cool/cold greenhouse) during the winter...it seems to *need* that 'cold spell' to thrive. So, even though it's considered a 'tropical' plant....if its basic need of that 'cold spell' isn't being met, the plant won't thrive indoors. For example, a plant that *needs* high light to grow indoors isn't getting high light, therefore, it won't thrive, right?

Skrip: it was your Salvia suggestion that really inspired me. Great, hot color. I ended up with less space to work with than I thought. It was a really funky space--the garage door opens over the bed, and then hits the wall--so I needed a potted plant there. And the bed is in the back corner of the property where it's possible to get through the hedge to the alley--so needed another pot there that could be moved when the gardener trims the hedge. So I put in salvia chaipensis, a large potted coral fuschia, a potted philodendron, a jasminium sambac, and pink, orange and apricot impatiens. Looks fabulous. My garden is mostly all cottagey things. This tropical corner is so different for me and was a lot of fun. It really brightens up a very dark, funky corner. Thanks for your help! Kristine I

As Suzy notes, this is not a type of clematis but a different vine species altogether. I wouldn't be disappointed - jasmines can be spectacular and extremely sweet smelling vines in the right location and hardiness zones. Left in a container under the overhang of a tree is not the growing conditions it needs to flourish - try rich soil, even moisture and full sun and a good support system. Since this is a pass-along plant from a friend, running to a nursery to chide them for mislabeling hardly seems appropriate - nursery mislabeling is unfortunately commonplace and is most often done by consumers pulling and reading plant tags and replacing them incorrectly rather than by the nursery itself.
