Friesia sure does, in the hot weather, no disease, bright green leaves lots of brilliant yellow blooms.

Without this - spot, sad, always needs care.

But then I bought Sir Donald Bradman because it looked so good in the nursery.... one really hot day, at my house and his blooms kark it very smartly :(

Parked next to him is Riverview, what a rose, it beats me why it isn't more popular, perhaps no publicity.

Neither rain, nor snow nor hail nore sleett nor 24 hours a day wind and sun damage it's lovely deep red blooms.. not even a stupid dog trying to dig it up stopped it.

Any of the Alister Clarks cope with all weather, the hybrid musks bloom on regardless bless them.

Perhaps the rose I would gladly chop out if I could manage to do it without it clawing me to death is Awakening. It's mother must be deathly ashamed of it.. boy does it ball if there's so much of a dew. I wind up with an eight foot high bush covered in hundreds of bits of soggy brown cotton wool.. a pox on it.

hi fran, I also find my hot chocolate seems to take any kind of weather also graham thomas, mary rose ,jubilee 150,kronenburg, I havent had to many problems and mine cop every type of weather and wind you could imagine but no frosts

My two :-Bonica's seem to love the heat their buds and flowers stay on the bush for ages. I have a :-Mary Rose blooming at present thats keeping its flowers too. Same with :-Lovely Lady those three are all pink.

My worst is a crimson :-La Sevillana would you believe it has white streaks from the sun fading it, but the flowers stay on a long time. Here one day and gone the next is:-Apricot Nectar followed closely by :-Gold Bunny and :- White Iceberg.

Just Joey stays on the bush for ages but it fades really bad and the buds are always getting eaten by grubs same as the :-Australia Olympic Gold. Not good results so I will have to do a bit of research and find out what roses like the heat better and start buying them instead of what I would really like.Cheers .....MM.

Frank, my looks into the long-range forecast for WI have found the same conclusion -- come Friday, it will be just like we've skipped over spring and jumped straight into summer, with temperatures in the 60s here next week even by the big Lake (Michigan). I can't wait -- the trees and berries and I will be very very happy, assuming it is true. We'll see. We got a half inch of snow just yesterday *while* I was planting and mulching some new blackberries -- sheesh! Ready for change any day now.

trigger: I'll be in/out of the GH no later than 8 am, and no earlier than 10 pm, many hours after the sun has gone down. Please understand, that what works in your climate doesn't, up here. When a strong Canadian front comes whipping down and across our flat Illinois cornfields, it can drop our temps from a balmy +40, to -10, in hours, then settle in for 0 to +10 deg. days that can linger. My first winter with my GH will be as much experimental as for intended use, and while I'll have tanks out there, it isn't won't be fish at first, just plants. If an aquatic plant dies down to it's roots, it will come back, but once a fish bellies up, it's premanently dead. Nevertheless, I have learned so much from communicating with so many different people here on the GH Forum, and as result, believe I've avoided many mistakes that would have been impossible to mitigate without tearing it all down and starting over; a dreadful thought. Which makes me wonder how many backyard GH's have been abandonded, simply because their owners didn't have access to so many different ideas and experiences, from so many others who have made their own mistakes, learned from them, and have come here, to share their knowledge. I really am, very, VERY grateful.

jont l - Where did you buy your EZ Flo fertilizer injector? I live in East Texas and grow a variety of roses. Several of the Buck roses are doing really well for me: Bright Melody, Do Si Do, Dorcas, Golden Unicorn, Prairie Sunrise, Prairie Star, Polonaise, Prairie Breeze, Winter Sunset, Pearlie Mae, Quietness, Prairie Square, the Countryman, Honeysweet - I have others that are first year roses that are looking good. I can't remember when I got mine, either 2009 or 2010, as a tiny first year TC plant. It has now grown to four or five eyes and though I wouldn't say it's vigorous, it has been growing nice and steady for me. It does get some afternoon sun, and despite the heat and dryness, it is doing really well. It has faded some, but its leaves aren't crispy at all. Karen

The only true Pyrex rose I have so far is Charles de Gaulle. Goes from oven to dishwasher to freezer without so much as a singe or a sog. Other good points: nicely reflexed petal, very good fragrance, holds extremely well in the vase if treated properly. Now for the bag: Color is pig-ugly. The swing tag says 'Delicate Mauve' Ha. 'Delicate Morgue' is closer to the mark.

Different parts of the country, different results. Charles de Gaulle burns to a crisp here in Adelaide, whereas Gold Bunny is indestructable, and just keeps on flowering. A new rose last year Brass Band is amazing, and the heat doesn't bother it. Probably the winner hands down is City of Adelaide, a salmony pink. It was a gift and I probably wouldn't have chosen it myself, but now she's shown me what she's made of, I wouldn't be without her. Tough, disease free, and flowers continually.

You forgot to mention Camp David.He's living up to your weatherproof reccommendation in my garden,so is Traviata,Riverview and Veterans Honour(never to be called,City of Newcastle etc,in my garden).These are all in their first year,some BS but thats par for the course in my area,no spray.

Whereas at my altitude I don't often suffer from +30 temps, the one rose in the gareden I cannot fault is New Dawn - never watered, never sprayed, no black spot, no mildew, always weighed down with blooms even past the first frost. Ditto the Pemberton Musks Cornelia and Felicia and Buff Beauty, although too much wet leaves them a bit defoliated. New Dawn takes all weather in her stride,stands up to heat brilliantly. Anything with China in its breeding should flourish in the heat, shouldn't it?

I'm with Georgie on New Dawn. But Aloha is a disaster - stubby little buds that seem to collect liquid in their concave tops, then ball and rot. I've hardly had a flower, certainly no good ones, even though it keeps producing great candelabras of buds. Anyone else find this result with Aloha or do I have a dud?

Gold Bunny and Grimaldi (thanks Sandie) are my best hot weather roses. Both are bloom machines up here. Fruitee has not done badly and neither has Double Delight.

We are usually 3 to 4 degrees above Adelaide and two roses that don't cook are rusticana and jubilee 150. I really push rustican because it is pretty disease free, flowers through summer and is a good picking rose.

Judy-I am so glad you are getting pleasure from Grimaldi.
I wasn't sure that I liked his colours but they have grown on me-I have 2 healthy cutting grown ones from the plant I sent you.
He really is an exceptional performer.

I did forget Riverview (mea culpa) absolutely bulletproof and a most BEAUTIFUL red... why it isn't in more gardens is beyond me..
But on the other hand Sir Donald Bradman should only ever be planted under a B$%$ verandah in my opinion, one blast of 30% and he's a shrivveled mess.. It was a sad day when I bought him.

St Patrick is my best hot weather performer it lovess the heat and will often last ten days on the bush no matter how hot. On the other hand I love Sutters Gold but it doesnt last one day in hot weather it is better in the autumn. I am thinking of moving it to a half shade position ,do you think this would help? pam
