Strawberries not setting

Hi all,

I put in a few strawberry plants at the beginning of summer and got a fairly disappointing crop from them.

I wasnt too concerned, as I was more interested in seeing them spread so that I could get a good harvest next year.

They are spreading very well and have a lot of flowers that turn into small green fruit, but the fruit rarely gets any larger than about a cubic centimeter and never ripens.

What is going wrong? They are in a sunny and fairly warm position and the soil is ok - the plants are not under stress.

Is it because they are sending out runners that the fruit is not ripening? Or is it a nutrition problem?

Any help appreciated! I'd like to get at least one jar of jam next summer!
