Lonicera - a vigorous (to the point of invasive) plant, but not at all fussy, takes dramatic shearing and pops back, and I will never tire of the fragrance. I keep it in bounds by growing it as a standard, which has the extra advantage of keeping the flowers at a convenient height for sniffing.

Thanks everyone! We have really had a chance to enjoy them this year. We have been on vacation and the weather has been wonderful. We have been trying to finish up painting on the house, so have spent many hours out in the yard. mandolls, I have had very good luck with Easy Elegance series of roses. Also Explorer roses are good for our cold winters. I do almost no winter protection, just leaves blown around the base of the roses. In the pictures above: in the round bed is EE My Girl which has done very well and is in an open area. Also above, the 2 bushes along the sidewalk, is EE Sunrise Sunset. If you are considering a climber I have William Baffin (can be a monster) and usually only blooms in early summer with a few blooms off an on during the summer. But Ramblin' Red is a great climber and blooms most of the summer.(last picture). Hope this helps. I have many others, but these are the ones that stand out. Others that do good, are Champlain, Cuthburt Grant, the Northern Accents roses (Ole, Sven and Lena. It really all depends on what type of rose you are looking for. I have several Knockouts too and they do well and add color. More winter die back on them, but they rebound quite quickly.

As I was scrolling down, basking in the beauty of each bloom, I kept saying "this ones my favorite"... no wait, "this ones my favorite"..."Oh, now THIS ones my absolute favorite"....and before I knew it, they were ALL my favorite!
