Rina- The specific instruction in this particular thread was "stick stem into mix", ("with mama plant" and everything that follows was my query). I just wanted clarification on *which* mix :) Many times on the forum here, I've seen it said "stick into mix" or "stick back in pot" or "put back into pot/mix" without specifying *new, dry mix in seperate pot* when discussing broken stems. As I mentioned one specific example, burros tail, where I've read several times to "put it back into the pot", after a stem breaks off.... Which I understand to mean putting back into the pot with the plant that it broke away from. Experienced c&s growers may have the intrinsic knowledge to use a new pot, dry mix ... But when you are newer at this game, the instruction to 'put it back into mix' yet 'don't water it' could be confusing! I just wanted to get a little clarity for the rest of us, as the way it read was a little vague :) :) :) I have been noticing/wondering about this for a while, this thread just brought it up and I thought I'd ask. :) do I have enough smiley faces to convey the friendly tone of my post? ;) kd

Hi everyone. Albert - Sorry I can't help with a name for your plant, but I'm maybe able help with the puzzle that causes name tags to disappear (at least here in Australia where I live). We have a local bird called a Satin Bower Bird which is well known for it's habit of stealing and collecting all things blue. See: http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Ptilonorhynchus-violaceus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satin_bowerbird Unfortunately the Bower Birds in my area have also developed a liking for white plastic name labels of the type used by bromeliad growers. In a single weekend I had all the name tags vanish from my collection of Aechmea orlandiana plants and it was just pure luck that I actually saw a Bower Bird with one in its beak otherwise I never would have expected it as the culprit. To overcome this problem initially I pushed the labels right down below the surface of the potting mix, but as that was very much an inconvenience to me I had to think of another simpler way. I had noticed that a couple of the plants still had their name tags and these were temporary improvised tags I had once made out of old aluminium Venetian blind slats one day when I ran short of my usual name tags. It seemed that the Bower Birds didn't like the aluminium tags so ever since then, I have always made and used tags mad from re-cycled aluminium blind slats, and have never lost a tag since. Not all areas have Bower Birds, but if you do have a problem with vanishing name tags, don't dismiss the idea that some with a similar liking for white plastic tags could be the culprit. in your area as they are indigenous to the East Coast of Australia, but you may have another bird with similar habits so its another possible cause of lost/stolen name tags to consider.
