Dont' you think Bill Bryson is along those lines?

Chris, I'm looking for someone who has done an actual "in the footsteps of Twain" journey and written about it. I could find the information I am looking for in various travelogues, but it just strikes me as funny that there doesn't seem to be anyone who has followed up on Twain's travels, because people have been following Stevenson, Ibn Battutah, Darwin, Marco Polo and other famous travellers and there is a whole travel sub-genre of these stories around. I wanted to see if perhaps someone had come across a book that I might have missed when I was googling and looking at bookseller's sites.

IÂm not a traveloguer nor an author, this for sure, IÂm only "modern". But I found an 1911 edition of the Innocent Abroad by Mark Twain in the Italo-Britannica library, and I happen to live in one of the cities Mark Twain visited in the late 1800s, (1860/1867) more or less.
So this is what IÂm going to do: read the chapter about Genoa entitled "Oh the Superb Genoese Ladies! Superb but Tomb Like with a map and a modern guide-book beside me, then with my English teacherÂs help, Mrs. A., I will try to write a little issue about how things have changed since then. I hope in a couple of months IÂll be ready to post my little work in this thread
