Hi cactus and succulent fans in Australia! IÂm a collector in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Quite a few species of cactus and succulents are native to our state, such as Echinocereus fendleri, v. kuenzleri, Peniocereus greggii, Fouquieria splendens and Agave lechuguilla.

Anyway,what are some of your favorite plants? I have too many, but some of my favorites are ferocactus and agaves.

hey cactus dude, "g'day" (nah, kidding). um...don't really have too many favourite plants - mammarilla and rebutia cactus's look pretty cool. anyway, cya ;-)

What's up 'Dogg? Good to hear from you. I despise that slimy, beady-eyed little weasel dubya and voted against him. But let's avoid talking politics and stick to more fun subjects like cacti!

Yes, rebutias and mamms are pretty cool. Lately I've been getting into caudiciforms, like Bursera and Pachycormis.

you can certainly plant them , but i have my doubts that they would survive your winters, too cold for them , but give them a go anyway

I bought some own root Windermere and Queen of Sweden from DA this year. They are very healthy and don't look to have RMV but I'm not an expert. All had several thick canes and a nice root system. These were planted in early June, which is late for bare roots but they are growing great and have already had 2 flushes. It seems the quality has gone up from a few years ago and they now guarantee their roses for 5 years if planted at the proper planting time. I don't know how good they are at honoring the guarantee but it seems like they have faith in their product. Sharon

sure reminds me of buckthorn.. a tree ... and the 2 leaders.. makes me wonder if you tried to pull it out last year ... and didnt quite get it ... most trees dont die.. simply from cutting down ... youre probably going to have to get under that conifer.. and snip it.. and hit it with a stump killer ... just brushed on the cut ... or dig it out with a hand shovel .... you might need a couple extra hands.. to expose it ... ken

no probs...so whats the weather like over there? its 2weeks away from summer here, and its been non-stop rain for the last 2 months! im sick of this wet depressing weather- give me sunshine any day. my cacti have been waiting for ages to get some good sun, but instead are almost freezing to death on the window sill. anyways, keep it real!

Yo Dogg! Well, the weather here has been pretty seasonal, i.e., chilly mornings, mild afternoons, but this weekend is supposed to get downright cold. High chance of snow, high temps barely climbing out of the 30's, lows in the low 30's (fahrenheit). That's great that you're heading into summer in Oz! Here in ABQ, we have a long winter ahead of us. Oh well, I can't complain too much, because I'll be going to Tucson, Arizona next week. It's always warmer there than ABQ. Hasta!

cool. i was thinking 30's was hot (cos we go by celsius here), but i guess 30F is like 0 over there-? anyway, arizona sounds cool- i mean, warm ;-P. had a massive storm here last night, but its been a way hot day today luckily. so...how many cacti do u have? r u a major cactus fan, or just enjoy them?

I know, being an American, celsius completely baffles me!

I have about 140 different cacti and succulents, and I'm seriously running out of space! I'm definitely a cactus nut, but I like a lot of other plants too, especially plants from desert climes. How about you?

140! woah, waaaay more than me. i have like 15. not much hey? i have a notocactus, astrophytum, mammarilla, and other hybrid and grafted cacti. im only at the start of my collecting, but its fun. still need a long time to collect anywhere near 100.

Once I built my greenhouse, I had the perfect excuse to acquire more plants. Except now my collection is outgrowing the greenhouse too. I have scaled back a little bit, but I'll be buying more in Tucson soon! I have a lot of Ferocactus, various columnar species, as well as a lot of opuntias, hedgehogs, etc. I also have too many palms, oleander, a fig tree, mexican lime, boojum, yuccas, agaves, palo verde... It's kind of an addiction! Bye for now.
