There is a species of mosquitoes Wyeomyia haynei is found in the southern pitcher plant, S. purpurea venosa, from Maryland to South Carolina. Another similar species is Wyeomyia smithii grows in the S. purpurea on N. Jersey. Both species uses S. purpurea as a host to breed their larva in it, the larva are immune to the enzymes of the pitcher plants. The females deposit their eggs directly on the water within the plant or just above the waterline in older pitcher leaves. The larvae live in the liquid of the plant and feed on the carcasses of insects and spiders being digested by the plantÂs enzymes. These mosquitoes are found no where else and is a good example of a species depending solely on a particular host to complete its life cycle to survive. If the pitcher plant goes extinct, so do they. I wouldnÂt be surprised that you have that particular species of mosquitoes living in your pitcher plant, several generations can grow on a single leaf. Is it a recently purchase plant? Maybe they came in as stow-away. Depending where you got your plant will tell you the species of the mosquitoes. DonÂt worry the mosquitoes and its larva wonÂt hurt your plant, you on the other hand is whole a different matter if you have your plant growing inside your room. BZZZZÂ Ouch! If you have your plants growing outside, thereÂs no problem at all. I wouldnÂt mind having them as guests living in my plants. It is an interesting species of mosquitoes after all.

I agree Ziggy, condoms and ornaments? Otherwise sounds good to me. Beautifying a public space using his own free time and funds. He says that he doesnt bother private land, which is good, because, regardless of its state, it still isnt his. Have to admit though, I havent read many articles related to gardening that mention Che and Mao. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Well, here we are a year later and zero progress has been made at the house. The house continues to decline. If you look in the windows you can see the ceiling hanging down. And it's easy to look in because some of the windows are gone now. The city posted a notice yesterday requiring them to cut the grass within 10 days. HA!! Some weeds are chest high on me right now. What really ticks me off is how great those Ixora look! LOL In spite of everything wrong at this house, these Ixora have more red flowers than any I have see in the neighborhood! And the front walk is about swallowed up by weeds now, too. Charlie and I did take a chain saw to the back yard and got rid of the fallen tree and cut back a few things. You could barely see the difference. The realtor told me to go ahead and take the Yucca plants. It seems the bank is considering knocking down the house and selling the lot. So I'll have the plants if there is ever someone over there to offer one to. I have a question about the "Yucca" plant. I am wondering if this is actually a Yucca or if it is perhaps a Dracaena. It won't make any difference in how I care for it, but I am curious. Here is a cross section of one stem, if that helps.

I love finding tree frogs in the garden. However, they usually make their presence completely unknown - except for their chirping - until I unintentionally disturb their hiding place and they leap out of the way, scaring the stuffing out of me in the process!! Here is one that decided the top of my BBQ was a good place to perch...........
