thanks everybody for replying ..about the red stem I'm talking about ....it is like the seedling of this picture of a bottle palm ( H.lagenicaulis) if you can notice my seedling doesn't look like it :( is there a chance that mine will be the bottle or do I have to purchase again some seed?

Great looking palm! I had a bottle palm seedling for a while and it started to get big, but for some reason I gave up on it one year and didn't bring it inside. I regret it after seeing yours and I'm happy that I bought another one this year since they are beautiful palms (and like you said, they aren't as heavy as you'd expect). Growing palms in NY and anywhere up north is really rewarding! My trash has dead palm fronds and banana leaves while everyone else is throwing out normal NY plant debris haha. Thanks for sharing! Those damaged fronds will be replaced in no time! -Alex

That's amazing that you started those bottles from seed! How old are they? They must be pretty old to be that size. I know they're slow growers if they'r anything like spindle palms. My spindles only used to push out 1 frond a summer, and they'd always get sunburnt, so I decided to send them to the compost. Yours look great though. As for the Minor, mine are on their first frond of the summer. Not sure why it took them so long to get growing, especially with this hot summer we're having. One of them pushed out 5 fronds last summer, and my Louisiana did even more. I remember you used to have a nice sized Robusta. Have you decided to try another one?

Hi IMHO they are best in a pot.lol They are slow growing ,tend to get wide rather than tall, easily wind damaged and are cold sensitive. Also think they hold onto the "bottle" longer though there is wide variation between plants on this feature from the start. This one was the best of the seedlings and i decided to keep it because a neighbor gave me the pot and did the work lol It is a bit over 30 years old and you still wouldn't be able to walk under it. if in the ground.. i have a very small lot and a hopeless" collector' so something had to go lol Certainly makes a striking pot plant?? good luck with yours!! gary
