About the Pelargonium, did you mean that you hybridized a plant and this is a cutting from that offspring? How old is that plant? Toni has a cool one that's inspired me to try to keep one as a house plant but since reaching that conclusion all I can find is red, which I don't prefer.

Norma - that is a major generalization that being from Africa means it is a winter grower. Only the Western and Southwestern portions of Southern Africa are in the winter rainfall regime, and there is lots of overlap. Avonia quinaria can be found withing the winter rainfall zone and in the transition zone where rain showers can occur anytime of the year. In habitat, they experience regular, heavy nocturnal dew that can saturate the soil. Nights are also frequent frosts during the winter. These and many other related genera like to have frequent but light waterings, especially when evenings are cool and days are sunny and warm. In most climates this is during the spring and fall. They are best kept on the dry side during cold and cloudy conditions. In the heat of the summer they slow down growth so a little water every now and then is beneficial. ammcour - you mentioned you have this near a window. This plant will not thrive long-term if kept indoors at room temperatures. Like many other succulents, a day-night temperature differential is necessary for healthy growth, not to mention fresh air. As for soil, in my experience a typical dense mix like I use for Mesembs works just as well for Avonia and other dwarf SW African plants. Into my gritty mix of gravel, lava rock and some Turface I incorporate clayey garden loam, which helps retain moisture and sustain the very fine rootlets.

DavidL.ca The 45lt Terrascape is "Air plants only" Lighting will be a twin Aquarium 4ft unit 1 plant and 1 daylight tube, that unit/combination grows aquarium plants very well. The Air plants are in an open tank misted every morning. The Lithops will be growing in 1-3 river stones about 10cm deep and will never be watered directly except a morning mist as required. The tank will have a glass lid with a 10cm opening back and front plus about the same at the ends, if required I can install a computer fan at each end but I doubt it would be required. I live in Victoria Australia which is considered more of a Mediterranean climate. All the watering is done from the bottom via a tube from the top via what is called a UGF Under Gravel Filter when used in a fish tank. The plate is about 2cm high, to check the moisture I use a standard garden Moisture Meter To stop the garden soil from clogging up the grates I will add a layer of 1-3mm river stones at least 3cm deep first
