Aw drats, some plants may look similar but have very different needs. X, I didn't think that their needs would be totally different. I've had some for a while just in the tiny 2" pots that I had treated with the same watering conditions (very little and moderate light). Since they had all done well I thought that this temporary home would be better than that tiny pot. I did say I'd replant if needed so, I'll do that this weekend. I was going to use Al's gritty mix, since I still had some but it was not enough to fill this container so I used a perlite, peat, bark type mix. Its very dry with lots of bark so I thought it would be a decent substitute until I mixed my own batch. There are so many plants from around the world its hard to keep track of them, let alone all the names of the plants I have. Thanks for the help with the names, I pretty much only new the echeveria and the lithpos. X, I do want to learn more about the plants I have an keep good care of them. I need to keep a book of my plants names, living conditions, origins and etc for my sake and the sake of my plants. So, I can keep everything together except for the echeveria and the crassula. As far as soil goes, would Al's mix be good? I'll be making some here in a couple of weeks. Jeff, would the Crassula do well with Crassula multicava. I've got very little space to work with which I why I am trying to combine some plants so that I have SOME space to walk around my patio. Came here during some research I'm trying to do on this subject because of some potential plans I have on planting one of a few eucalyptus species, and while there's a lot of good information/discourse here on variables concerning affected plants, mulch quality, effect on soil, and other factors that may affect plants such as water and root competition, I'm kind of noticing a pattern here and elsewhere: There's a lot of lumping eucalyptus into one umbrella category...Guys, there's like 700 something species in this genus; they are not all created equal. I think that also may be partially why there seems to be so much debate over the subject, two different people could be very well talking about two different species. I'm not saying everyone has to be a friggin botanist over it, but it really is helpful to know what species any given person is talking about. Maybe then we can start to notice a pattern with one given variety or another. Just my two cents. As an aside, I kind of think climate may have a non negligible part to play. I could definitely see these chemicals hanging around in the soil a lot differently in a more arid environment with lots of organic matter build up versus a wet rainy tropical environment where everything either leaches away or decays as fast as you can blink at it.

Worth noting what it says under E. purpusorum on the ICN site: Note : The true species is rare. Plants offered in the trade usually are hybrids. There are several more or less similar hybrids, one of them is named E. 'Dionysos'. Offsetting plants most likely are all hybrids.

This can be confusing. The best thing to do is get to know your plants and where they come from. I live on the Northern Hemisphere, but I do own succulents that originate from the Southern Hemisphere. For example Lithops I don't water now. I water when my fall comes around which would be your spring. I keep them out of harsh sun and just let them take their little plant nap. I water them early fall, but protect them in the winter. If I lived in hardiness zone 10 I probably wouldn't need to protect them. In Dec and Jan it gets a little too cold at night where I live. The worst combo for succulents is watering them, and then keeping them unprotected during a frosty night. Sounds like where you live it's pretty mild during the winter. Right now probably a lot of your cactus are starting their growing period. As long as everything is in fast draining soil the rains shouldn't be a problem. If you get downpours I would find a way to protect them, but if it's just normal rains I wouldn't worry. Like I said what you have to worry about is the cold. If you get frosty nights you will need to protect them. edit: sorry I'm stupid I only know Fahrenheit. I had to figure out what 10C is converted to F. Your fine no worries. As long as the coldest is 10C your golden:).
