I know it may be problematic or not possible for that matter, I just thought I would try it. There is a picture (I tried to paste a link below) of what is reputed to be plicatilis crossed with bainesii and I think it is a terrific looking plant. I dont know enough about hybridizing to know if that is something that is possible by using natural techniques or if that is something that is created in the lab or something. I am generally not into aloe hybrids but I am attracted to the aloe tree crosses. The tree aloes are right up there with my favorite plants and I cant help but to be interested in the hybrids for the attractiveness and more rapid growth tendencies. Jordi, that is impressive after 10 years and starting from such a small seedling. Dont you also have pillansii in the ground over there? Are they pushing out leaves right now and how are they doing with all this rain? I have three small pillansii seedlings in pots in the window and I am waiting for it to warm up a bit before I move them out to more of a small greenhouse situation. They are sending up tiny new leaves right now and I dont want to mess that up. I am in Spring Valley so we are pretty close and I am encouraged by your success with pillansii as I would love to put mine in the ground when they are ready. Here is a link that might be useful:

A.dichotoma will fool you into thinking it survived when in fact it's on a sloooooow death that could take 3-4 years. I have one still plump stemmed,no leaves,no roots. I wait every year ,and eventually doesnt root and something knocks it out of it's pot-like cats!. A second in ground plant lost most of its leaves this wet cool winter in -yes- part shade. It's a sunny spot in summer,but winter sun isnt enough and with rain it struggles. But maybe the most terrible sorry story is a local Nursery had a huge boxed plant-10-12' tall or so with a huge,wide trunk..developed rot. The owner than transplanted it down to a 24" pot. Then, after two years it died. It hadnt re-rooted but managed to look alive all that time till the end.

rosemariero, thanks! Hopefully you'll be able to easily find Aloe africana! If not then you're welcome to drive up and pull weeds for africana seeds... j/k (kinda). So you're a big fan of how I pronounce Kalanchoe? :P Well... I do have a ton of Kalanchoes... many of which are blooming right now. So maybe I'll make another video but this time featuring nothing but Kalanchoes. I might end up awesomely pronouncing "Kalanchoe" around 20 times! I think my favorite is Kalanchoe uniflora. hoovb! I planted it in 2010. It was in a 15 gallon pot from Rancho Soledad. In my blog entry for this video... I linked to my other blog entry about Hercules (with before and after photos). Towards the end of that blog entry I included this link to your blog. Your collection of tree Aloes is better than mine! Have you already made a tree Aloe video that I don't know about? If so, then please share the link! If not, then you should make one! The way I rationalized it was... that maybe even a bad video of my tree Aloes is better than no video. Just saw the photo of the mockingbird perched on your Hercules. Around three years ago some mockingbirds actually built a nest in my Hercules. Then they would dive bomb anybody who got even close to Hercules. Hercules grew so fast though that the nest fell out when the leaves it was built on fell off. Well... the baby birds had already flown the coop so I suppose Hercules didn't grow that fast. But then the next year the mockingbirds rebuilt the nest in Hercules. It's still there but empty now. I wish that I had pointed it out in the video.

Yes you can reroot, but it can take many, many, many months, 8, 10, 12. This is not a plant in a hurry. You have to support it very well so it won't fall over while it is rootless, or fall over and snap off the new roots it has grown. Lots of bright indirect light and dry mix. Watch for mealy bugs. Do not water until it has roots, and even then, be careful as this is an easy Aloe to rot. I lost mine in early 2011 to a relatively lavish yearly rainfall total of 12". I made the mistake of not building a wooden structure to support it for re-rooting. It was 6' tall and well over 100 lbs and would fall while I was waiting for roots...and then it got a severe case of mealybugs...today with more knowledge I would do better and probably have saved it. You may be better off trying to save it as it is...investigate and see how far the rot has progressed. Drug store hydrogen peroxide is 3%. Swimming pool hydrogen peroxide ("shock treatment") is 30% and can inflict burns to the skin.
