Hibiscus - hard to find?

Anyone know a seller who has a reasonable selection of Hibiscus in the Bankstown/Sydney or surrounding environment? Someone who specialises (to a degree)in these plants. Even a homegardiner with cuttings established would be helpful. I have tried unsuccessful to get some plants with two colours in the flower. In anticipation thank you.

I found the Qld Hibiscus Soc website, which has links to the Australian Society and to some nurseries (I did not check locations).

You might contact either society to see if they could put you on to folk in NSW who could help

Here is a link that might be useful: hibiscus society

Hi, ebay has some on a regular basis - keep checking for new varieties as different ones appear all the time. I have bought two this way and they have all been great healthy plants.

I agree, you can prune it pretty hard. Then give it a light feeding to encourage new growth. When it starts to put out new growth, pinch about 2-4" off the tips of each new branch. This will encourage the new growth to branch again lower and make it even more bushy and full. You must be in the southern part of the state. Here in NorCal we just let the winter prune them for us, lol. But in a warm sheltered spot sometimes they can get pretty big.

Hibiscus Cuttings- What are easy, hard?
Q

Your right about the hybrids, if you would like the flowers to stay the same, you would need a cutting from the plant. Now, I have collected A BUNCH of seeds from my tropical hibiscus, but i have never tried a cutting, I have heard from more than one person that you need a hardwood cutting from a tropical, as they are more hard and woody, for a higher success rate. The seeds will take a while to get going, I currently have empty waterbottles that I cut in half, but left a little bit, to act as a clear container to start them in, and raise the humidity----this is for tropical. Hardy hibiscus I have never tried, but I do own one ( strawberry crush) Hope this helped I cant wait to here your results!

Where to find Disco Belle Hibiscus?
Q
Comments (8)
By coincidence, my Disco Belle just started blooming the other day. it only has a few blooms per day right now. Those happily get eaten by our Russian tortoise. I snapped a pic this morning before feeding it to him. I got mine years ago at a fancy garden center. It wasn't cheap. This time of year, it is actually the time of year they sell them here because they are either about to bloom or blooming which makes them easier to sell. I remember buying one in June from a garden center and it was just a bowl full of brown sticks. That's the point where one must truly have garden optimism! My others will be blooming soon. I'll take more pics and post as they do. I don't remember the names of my other varieties, but I guess since Disco Belle was my first, I always remember her.
