I grow Arum too, but they come up in the fall, stand all winter, bloom in the spring and then go dormant until fall when you see their seed stalks. Great plant, but not a great substitute for caladiums. I am not certain that it is winter hardy, but Calla bulbs might be a suitable substitute for caladiums in your area and would enjoy similar growing conditions. The white calla called "Crowborough" is supposed to be the most winter hardy type. I saw it offered by Arrowhead Alpines. You have only two choices: pick another plant or dig your caladium bulbs each year (#3 buy new caladium bulbs each year) :)

Hi Linnea, I see Caladium World has 12 positive reviews (and one neutral) at 'that other' gardening site. They appear to be in your price range and have White Christmas available yet, but you had best hurry as numerous varieties are no longer available. Caladium World Home page. There is a link on that page to availability. Pricing for various sizes and types. Sue

I just leave them. There's other stuff around that kinda covers up the dead stems so no one can tell.

I like both Caladiums and Tulips very much. Caladium bulbs will not survive winter in our area. So I plan to replant them every year. Tulips is a different story. It grows pretty well at my front yard, but usually eaten by deer before or soon after bloom. This flowering bed is very close to the house. I figure deer will be less intended to come. In our area, we need to replant Tulip bulbs every year because the bloom only looks good the first year after planting. Costco has been selling Caladlium and Tulip bulbs very economically so it is not too much expense. My plan is to make this part of flowing bed have a longer bloom period.
