Good to hear! I have mine in pots still. They'll probably stay there for a while yet until I can find a place for them. The heucherella has a small root system so it'll probably remain in the pot until the end of summer when it can have the chance to grow more roots and I can keep a better eye on it. Once plants are in the ground they are mostly on their own. Here are my new heuchies. The back five and the one in the front left came from In The Country, they are (left to right): Heucherella Honey Rose, heucheras Sugar Berry, Sweet Tart, Glitter, Blondie, and Peppermint. The dark one, Blackout, came from Santa Rosa Gardens. The last one is my poor little Southern Comfort I nearly lost that I've been rooting. All there was left of it this spring were two small pieces of crown and no roots. Both were doing okay but then suddenly the tinier crown got eaten or something and I think it's a goner, but the bigger piece is slowly growing. Karen

I don't think Ipe will be dimensionally stable enough for something like louvers. Think about joist spacing at 16" o.c. and how we keep telling people how important it is to get the decking fastened securely to each joist, use construction adhesive, screw through the board into the joist, etc. With thinner material the supports should be spaced closed together. The louver aesthetic will look really cool if you can pull it off. I was inspired by a privacy fence I saw around an estate in Malibu; it was made of Ipe 1x3 run horizontally with minimal spacing. I didn't look closely enough at the thickness, but I think the boards were made by ripping 1x6 in half. Needless to say, the final product looks amazing. The clean horizontal lines and Ipe color create a beautiful contemporary minimalist design. How would the deck skirt look if you ran Ipe boards horizontally around the entire thing? It would be pretty easy to add studs at 16" o.c. between the main deck posts for support.
