Graywings, Bibb lettuce is the type I see here sold in those clamshells. As long as the roots exist and have been kept moist, they can be planted and will grow more leaves. I planted the remains of our local hothouse Bibb variety about 2 weeks ago and they are almost ready to pick. My daughter allowed red leaf lettuce (greenhouse purchased) to go to seed last year and this year she has several beautiful heads. here's my lettuce surrounded by pepper plants in the grow box. We can’t have a garden here because the deer, rabbits and other critters have a field day.

I'm going to trim "Audrey" way, way back, pull off all the leaves, and put them on a baking sheet on the lowest setting of my oven with the door ajar to dry. I'll try some recipes next week and report back on the flavor. I can also try some fresh leaves in tomato sauce. Currently, when I cook with recao, also known as culantro I use a lot. It's the main ingredient in soffrito. Many find it too strong, I can't get enough. Maybe I'll grow to like the strong scent and flavor of Cuban Oregano.

the plant in the bag should be irrelevant.. for the most part ... though i also hope someone else has tried clems specifically ... lots of hosta peeps use tree bags .. under maple trees in a usually failed attempt to try to outsmart the aggressive maples.. and its not easily ... and usually eventually fails... but one thing for sure.. NEVER leave the bag exposed on the top .. just like you dont leave such with a ball and burlap plant.. the exposed part.. will wick moisture out from the entire root system..and the plant will die due to drought... im impressed with a collection of 28 plants.. and like i stated in your other post.. i would use pots... i simply dont understand how you can carry plants around town in bags .. it would basically be bare rooting them .. and i mentioned perfect timing... or having the new place in advance.... so you could move them from one garden to the other and plant immediately ... you might want to replicate this post in perennial forum ... shrubs.. trees.. etc ... ken

you will stress the be jesus out of them this year.. and then again next year ... why not just leave them alone this year.. and just stress them next year ... perhaps one might consider root pruning them .. but since you just planted them last season.. im not sure that would be a benefit either ... i would search out pots 2 or 3 sizes larger than what they were bought in.. and plan on using a pot.. rather than trying to hoik trees around town in a bag ... it would be no better than bare rooting them.... which would be very feasible.. if the timing could be perfect ... 6 to 8 weeks prior to dormancy break ... frankly.. when i moved way back when.. i dragged 1650 pots of plants.. trees.. shrubs.. etc ... the cost was phenomenal.. as well as the labor ... i should have left a lot more stuff behind ... potting media alone cost me hundreds ... nut luckily.. i hit recycle bins for most of the pots i needed ... unless you have very expensive rare stock.. you might want to rethink taking them with you ... but if you insist.. we can help ... imo.. just do it then.. and not mess with them a year in advance .... ken
