You can actually snip and plant before these roots appear. They will root when placed in contact with soil.

I bought a Sempervivum from a favorite nursery and chose one specifically because it had two offsets. Not long after I got it home it started to show signs it was going to bloom. Sadly even the offsets began to bloom. I did not get any offsets from it but it's still blooming a month after the first flower popped open. There is nothing you can do except let nature take its course. The flowers are beautiful and will last a very long time. Enjoy the show! -Erica

Kd Sorry if I used wrong word - I thought you mentioned that they are burning in full sun. Perhaps you said drying - I am not sure now. That's why you keep them in shade or partial shade. In comparison, mine are all in full sun, whole day long - but I am repeating myself. The red color is great and welcomed, and I didn't want to suggest your plants don't look good. Heat they don't like is more zones 10 (?) or higher, and also very humid climate. In lower zones, they should be able to take full sun - JMO from my own experience. They can be grown in partial shade.

S M You didn't say what your general location and/or growing zone is? Nik is in warm climate and semps do not like that much heat and humidity - they will grow, but prefer bit milder climate. That is the reason why it took so long to root. What Nik did is correct - cut off all rot, set it on gritty substrate (do not worry about burying it) and unless stem has rotted thruout, it will evetualy root. They are Alpines, should get some winter rest; and many ppl in zones 9 and higher need to keep them in bit shadier and preferably cooler locations if possible. In my conditions, they do not have problem with rooting much faster. They grow outdoors, in ground or containers. They need very well draining mix especially in pots - and all I see is peat (or cocopeat?) in yours. They will rot if constantly wet. There is about 5cm of snow outside right now, I'll try to see if I can take some pics...
