Caudiciforms

I want to start a collection of caudiciforms. I realise there are many different plant species in this group. Can anyone help re spare plants (swap or otherwise), or details of a good source.

There are many species in the group, but not many available in Australia. Don't really know of any sources in NSW. I;m sure there are private growers though. Do your research, as most caudicforms aren't cheap particular the good sized ones. However they are really great fascinating plants, slow growing but very rewarding.

The arms can be removed as close to the caudex as possible, calloused for 10 days or so and replanted to grow new plants. With time, they will develop a new caudex but you have to allow it to grow for a couple of years before raising it or the roots won't get FAT! New arms will grow from the base of the caudex. Seed grown plants develop a nicer caudex but take much longer. I do it both ways. While the picture on the left is an arm division of Euphorbia squarrosa, the principle is the same; the new arms have grown from the base. You can just see the fat root developing into a pseudo caudex. The E. knuthii grown from my seed has developed a true caudex and if unearthed, would be much larger. In regards to ez's question, I think they readily branch after the first few years of growth, especially when given a micronutrient fertilizer. I received this 5-year old one from someone in my local C&S club about 2 weeks ago with about 1/4 inch of growth. I watered it once with Superthrive and it is currently branching at 5 points along the stem. It might be hard to see in the picture, but the top four growth points shown, as well as one on the other side of the stem, are all forming lateral growth buds.

Danny: You like fat plants..... Check out all the Baobab seeds that are available from Sacred Succulents/CA, and the fat plant selection at Bonsai Collectibles/CA. (Baobab seeds are easy to germinate). Mesa Garden/New Mexico also lists many seeds. Phytolacca dioicia seeds are also easy to find, and will produce a tree with a very fat trunk, as will all the Baobabs. If you want beautiful, yellow flowers and a fat trunk, try Uncarina grandidieri. Seeds of most of these fatties are sold on EBAY. Want to see photos of some fat plants, click on Bihrmann's Caudiciforms for the montage. Operculicarya decaryi/platypus...Cyphostemma juttae....Pachycormus discolor...Jatropha podigrica are plants worth growing. Happy hunting and growing. Your collection is sure to grow. Rudolf doesn't have everything! His list needs major updating, I went up there a couple of weeks ago. His retiring soon so after that, I doubt there would be anyone in Australia that would be growing much of what was formerly on his list. Better get in quick.

Thank you one and all for your comments from which I gather none of you have spare plants to trade or otherwise.
Rudolf will be in Sydney this weekend and I will see what he brings. There is a cactus and succulent show next to the Top Ryde shopping centre on Saturday.
I am not a member of any of these clubs and grow the plants for my own interest.

I am trying to liven up this forum, and I was wondering if you could post a new message detailing your success or otherwise in your persuit of caudici forms. Did you obtain anything from Rudy . If so how about a picture
