Hi belladonna, I don't know what part of Qld. you're in. Watercress will grow in the sub-tropics but I think it would really struggle in the tropics. Are you growing it in water? (That is how it occurs naturally). It needs semi-shade and if grown in the ground will need a lot of water. How have you got yours growing?...Cheers, Dee.

Hey dee Im at mudgeeraba where we do tend to get blanket heat i call it. It just saturates the air and there is no breeze. i suppose you could say its at the bottom of the hinterland. but watercress will grow in water everytime i have time it in water fully its just goes all yukky and dies. I dont have much luck with watercress but i am determined to make the bloody thing grow whether it likes it or not LOL. any suggestions or pictures on how you are growing would be excellent i am tearing my hair out and my hair already falls out enough from bleaching. cheers bella

Sorry to say this but I think it's the tropical heat that is killing it. Watercress grows literally as a weed in South Australia, in most of the creeks and rivers through the mount lofty ranges. It grows with its feet IN the water, occasionally higher up the bank but only if the ground is sodden. I have it in my pond, but it needs controlling otherwise it would swamp the whole pond. Very vigorous plant, if you're having that much trouble I'd give up and grow something that DOES survive. There are so many interesting herbs you can grow there but we struggle to establish down here... Don't fight nature Belladonna. :)
