I pulled the three towers out of their soil and y'al were right: packed, moist mess. So, I cleaned as much of the soil off of hte roots as I could (used a toothbrush even) and have left the towers bare root to dry out. I had read that a euphorbia succulent can survive root bare and out dry for months on end, hope this is true. I plan on dusting the roots with rooting hormone and then sticking them in a fast draining, porous mix like Al's gritty mix after the roots have thoroughly dried. It seems like this was a case of overwatering as the tissue of the towers arent mushy and the roots are still white and strong. Will the yellow parts rebound or should I harvest the offshoots and call it a day?

Courtney, I really wouldn't do that. You will change the look of your plant. What I mean is where you cut will forever look like you cut it. The plant won't grow from the top again. It will loose it's beautiful shape. If that makes sense:). If this was mine I would leave alone. Your Euphorbia is pretty as is. Eventually your plant will get new growth. BTW one of my favorite people in the whole wide world is named Courtney:).

I'm not convinced that what you have is trigona. It doesn't have the same markings or growth habit. But with so many different cultivars out there, tracking down an id on yours might prove a challenge. I'm no Euphorbia expert, but I'll bet someone on here knows exactly what you have. You might try posting this in the Houseplant forum as well. I think you might get more responses that way, since Euphorbia isn't technically a cactus anyway. And the spots really look like sunburn to me, especially since you say that it was recently moved outside to full sun for a while. However, like I said, I'm no expert. I think your best bet is to repost this in the Houseplant forum. Good luck!

I purchased it from Bob Smoley a few years ago. I did purchase grandicornis but it rotted before being able to root. Bob told me to plant in pure perlite and not water for months. Which I have a hard time doing. Started to and was successful finally. I don't plant seeds of euphorbia. I do get some volunteers at times but they just come up on their own. 'Bikerdoc' is very good at seeds and from his own stock. One of the best men on this site. Very helpful and knowable.
