Draco Tree

On the subject of the draco does anyone know if they strike easily from cuttings like all the other dracaenas? I have been lucky enough to move into a house with a seriously huge specimen in the front garden, unfortunately it's in an inappropriate position and needs to be moved.

They can be propagated from cuttings, just remove a branched section at the node, up to a metre long and plant in a sandy mix in full sun and stake it so it doesnÂt moves and be careful not to break the growing tip.

Draco trees when they are big can not be removed so if they are not upright you have to look for a support but not transplant it, we have plenty of draco trees here in the Canary Islands and that's how we do it with big draco trees

Setting it out in the rain (but not sudden, direct sun) should help remove the spots also. Please don't use any kind of household cleaners or polishes on plants unless such use is specified on the label.

Draceno draco trees have been transplanted successfully as can be seen at places like Lotus Land in Montecito. I would be concerned that you get sufficient roots and are doing it at the correct season of the year for best success. We don't grow them much here in northern California, so I don't really know all the specifics. I would suggest you contact a grower in southern California or an arborist who is familiar with moving the species to get better info

Hanz, I found they sprouted really easily from the fresh seed I picked of a tree back in 2004, seem to recall I had 100% germination. Gave several seedlings away, but they have all died, mine are the only survivors. Below is a pic I've just taken to show you my efforts at growing something like this, nothing fantastic, but they're mine all the same...lol! The middle one has always had darker leaves edged in red, the outer two have the yellow margins and paler leaves, all seed was from the same bunch. They only branch after flowering, so I guess mine are doomed to be single stemmed as they take decades and a really hot climate to grow properly...how long mine will last remains to be seen...will have to pass one on to each of my 3 children as family heirlooms!! I had no idea these plants were so expensive. I am raising them from seed to hopefully plant around some property Â they are a beautiful tree. The nice thing about these trees is they can live a long time; I have read about 4000 years. Because they are in the agave family or related to the agave they should be easy to maintain. Your link did not work, but these trees are in some California parks & are fairly common in the desert gardens of botanic parks. Mine are still at the seedling to 1 year old stage. I have noticed they do not like sand. I have some in soil & some in peat Â the ones I have not taken out of peat yet are doing the best. Like Alejandro1 said they do have medicinal qualities. I have medical books from the 1600Âs which speak of the use of this tree.

Dragon blood trees CAN be transplanted! You may need a crane though. lol! Look up transplanting draco trees on the webshots site and theres pics of someone transplanting a huge one. goodluck! I'd say you'd be able to cut it off and it'll re shoot roots, like most cacti/succulents! If your game!!!lol!
