Talk about a blessing concerning, "Give and it shall be given unto you." Well it seems like just last month I sent out some pups to some of the people that asked me for one and low and behold one of my neighbors moved and left ALL his plants behind and one of them was an Agave americano just like the one in this picture, and it's around the same size as the one in the picture too. The NEW home owner said he was having them removed and well I guess you know the rest of the story, YUP! it's now at my house, Yeah he gave me the cactus around the house The Agave is the same size as mine. He gave me all the cactus spices that he had also and I'm just excited to say the least. I wish I knew the names of them all but trust me they are NICE... "Give and it shall be given unto you is the first thing that came to mind when this happen, I just happen to stop by and meet the new owner and PRESTO!! LOL... He wasnt into Cactus I guess. Germanstar, These guys could hang out in the sun all day long and still look refreshed. Thanks for the tip on a parry, so can I ask what the ideal conditions are for them, seeing mine have died, I do have one but it seems to be struggling even planted next to the other agave's so up to this point I've just thought they were fussy. I have one for several years. My large mother plant died of rot but I was lucky it had a small pup. Pictured with Aloe that was given to me. It never produced pups and the one time it did, rot got to it. I left it out too late in fall with too much rain and cold. It is slow growing. Stush

Neil - it was a busy day. It took me all day because I kept having to go inside to cool off! But then again, I wasn't in a hurry. And if I don't find homes for my plants, we do have a big plant fair in March. I know, it's a long time off, but it is a great venue for trading - much to the chagrin of those who are trying to sell their plants. When I sell my plants, it is usually for a dollar or two, just to cover the cost of growing media. Sharing is more important to me. Kim, everything I read says this plant is frost tender and grows in zones 9-11. If you can keep it in a pot and bring it in for the winter, I think it will do fine.
