I have this plant to and think it's one of the better ones out there. I have two one on the south side of the house and one in a bed on the north side. They both went through a very cold winter here in north Louisiana with no cold damage. But I did damage mine with over fertilizing. The hose end type is what I was using. I believe it was miracle grow. When I use it in the future I will wash the fertilizer out of the center. I don't believe your winter is anything near what I have here. Bob

The more I look at it the less I think it is a recurvifolia. Its got the same dark color to the leaves and the flower spikes are somewhat similar, but I think the leaves in the yucca in your photo are a little too stiff and the flower spikes are a little tall (but the reason why the flower spikes in your picture is bigger than the ones Im used to might have to do with the better weather conditions). Sorry Im not 100% positive of the exact species. To me it almost seems like there are recurvifolias in the back but some other yucca in the front because the yuccas in the front seem like they have stiffer and lighter leaves than the ones in the back.

Yuccas are really tough plants. Hard to dig up roots, though. Even with a few roots and braced well until new roots form, transplant should go fine. They need full sun and excellent drainage. Water the transplant deeply once a week or so for first few weeks, then it will do fine on its own. Actually, you could just cut the stem at ground level and stick it in new location. It will root and do just fine. Old roots by driveway will put up new shoot or multiple shoots...repeat the "cut at groundlevel & stick elsewhere" routine. Or give cuttings away. Good luck. josh

last year i saw lots of yucca bright edge (stays so small and scrawny though, for a yucca) at hd along with other high end cultivars like euonymous variegata, aucuba variegata, pendant blue atlas cedar, but this year ive checked all hds in queens and nassau and can't find any! and the prices on yucca specimens are soaring elsewheres...
