Could anybody help me, by telling me where I can find some of the succulent called..............

Albuca, Maybe known as, Asphodeliaceae

Which species?

The family: ASPHODELACEAE is potentially quite large :)

I have some Scilla pauciflora which is a similar thing :) - bought mine from Hamiltons World of Cacti at Llandilo in Sydney.

All I know about this succulent is what I have read in a cacti book.......It says its species name is Asphodeliaceae
and the plant is just called a ..... Albuca .....
It is a thin suuculent strand that grows upward and spirals as it goes. Each piece is only about 5/10 mm across and is a bright green.. any more help would be great

Boy, does that sound like a fun program! Here is a recipe I LOVE. I love cabbage, apples, and caraway together, so I searched for recipes on line and finally selected this one, printed it, made it, and filed it away with my own comments and changes. Then I forgot I had it, and went through the process all over again a couple of weeks ago, searching, selecting, and printing. When I went to put the new recipe in the file, I laughed to see that it was the SAME one I had printed out last time -- and I had made the SAME notes and changes! Both times I had felt the dish needed both more caraway and some sweetness, for which I added concord grape wine, which made it perfect, in my opinion. It made the flavor much more complex. I will give you the recipe as I found it, with my changes in brackets. This recipe doesn't have bacon (no recipe you ever get from me will!), but you can probably add some if you like. Warm Red Cabbage, Red Onion, and Apple Slaw 5 T extra-virgin (only) olive oil 3 T balsamic vinegar [I like more] [a good splash of very sweet red wine, or maybe try some grape jelly or brown sugar] 1/2 head red cabbage [I used white once and it was fine] 1 large red onion [I used white once and it was fine] cut into 8 wedges [I cut it smaller] 1 t caraway seeds [I think it needs a lot more] 2 Granny Smith (or any tart) apples cored and cut into 8 wedges [I cut it into smaller pieces] salt and pepper to taste 1. Cut out the core of the cabbage and cut the cabbage into small pieces [I shred it] 2. Warm the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. 3. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, 2 minutes. 4. Add the cabbage, apples, caraway seeds, and vinegar [and wine or sugar]. Stir well. 5. Cook, uncovered, 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. 6. Season to taste with salt and pepper when the cabbage is soft. 7. Transfer to serving bowl and serve immediately [I found it just fine serving it later].

TZATZIKI (serves 6-8) 4 cucumbers 3 cloves garlic, peeled & minced 1 TBL olive oil Salt & pepper to taste 2 cups yogurt or yogurt & sour cream mixed Peel & seed the cucumbers & put through a fine grater (not a blender). Allow to drain in a colander until the juices have stopped running. In a small bowl, mash the garlic with the olive oil, salt & pepper. Stir in the cucumbers & yogurt. Chill, covbered for 1 hour or more. ~~Discover Dayton ATJAR KETIMUN (serves 8) 2 cucumbers, peeled, seeded & cut into 1" slices Salt 1/2 cup vinegar 3 TBL sugar 1/4 cup water Sprinkle the cucumbers lightly with salt & let stand 20 minutes. Tuna Causa Potato base: 3 large potatoes 1/3 cup olive oil ajÃ amarillo powder salt and white pepper Boil, peel, and mash the potatoes. Add the olive oil a bit at a time, to taste and until it has a nice smooth consistency. Season with salt, pepper, and the ajÃ amarillo to taste - you could also use chopped or pureed fresh peppers - this is a mild yellow pepper (spicier than a bell pepper, but mild). Form it into the base of your presentation on a platter and chill in the refrigerator for Â½-1 hour just to firm it up a bit. This dish is generally served cold or room temperature, though IÂve seen hot causas on a few menus. Tuna layer: 3 cans of tuna (I like to use the water packed) 1 small red onion, chopped mayonnaise salt and white pepper This is pretty much just a simple tuna salad. Mash the tuna, add the onions, and enough mayonnaise just to make it moist and hold together. Season to taste. Assembly: Potato base Tuna salad 1 tomato, seeded and diced 1 avocado, peeled and sliced 1 rocoto or other medium hot pepper 2 hard boiled eggs, sliced chopped black olives chopped parsley juice of 1 lemon You should have a nice, firm mashed potato base to build on. Layer the tuna salad on top of it. Top with chopped tomato and parsley. Lay a layer of avocado slices on top of that, sprinkle or brush with the lemon juice so they maintain their color. Then the hard boiled egg slices (you can hard boil your eggs along with your potatoes above, just donÂt leave them in the water the entire time) and the pepper rings. Scatter the chopped olives over the top of it. Set it on the table, ooh and ahh a little, dig in.

Printed from Allrecipes, Submitted by OrtegaÂ® -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 large peeled chopped carrot 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 clove garlic, finely chopped 3 cups chopped fresh spinach 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms 2 (10 ounce) cans ORTEGA Â® Enchilada Sauce, divided 1/4 cup vegetable oil 12 (6 inch) corn tortillas 1 1/2 cups SARGENTO Â® Fancy Shredded Monterey Jack Cheese, divided Directions 1 PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees F. 2 HEAT 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add carrot, onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, for 3 to 4 minutes or until carrot is crisp-tender. I have the same book you have the plant you are looking for is Albuca spiralis the Family name is Asphodeliaceae which includes Aloes,Gasterias and Haworthias etc.,

i think i'm looking at the same cacti book ur looking at madsmanx. it is albuca spiralis. i too have lusted after it but the only place i could find that plant is to obtain some seeds at Arizona Cactus Garden... but then i've looked at it today, and it's not there anymore... they basically sell cactus seeds not succulent.. ahh well.

Albuca are just one genus among many of a large number of geophytic plants from many plant Families occurring in the winter rain deserts of South Africa & Namibia. A few are in specialist collections but they are rare. Many of these plants are really unusual while some are also extremely beautiful in flower. A few examples from a huge range are, Albuca unifolia - quite an oddity. Some are 'windowed' as in the two ssp of Bulbine mesembryanthoides and also B haworthiodes. Tylecodon also has a number of amazing little plants. Not all are bulbs some are tiny caudiciforms and some have succulent foliage.
The only way to acquire these plants is to join a specialist Society and trade with experienced collectors or import new species with the cost and enormous red tape involved. I have a numer of various sp. mostly in the mesemb Family but no spares. Incidentally A spiralis does crop up now and again. I have just acquired one by trading. Tarrington Exotics sometimes has a few interesting bulbs such as Massonia. Most require knowledge and skill to grow.

re your Albuca. Have it listed in my book as Albuca, Asphodel, Liliaceae. Native bulbous plant of tropical and sth Africa.
Garry and Sue Reid, RMB 6270 Allans Flat via Wodonga Vict. 3691, have listed in their catalogue 'Albuca canadensis' : to 75cm pendulous yellow flowers with green stripe on reverse. Hope this is ofsome help. jancc
