Hey hey to the peoples.

Does anyone have a watertank up for sale. Reasonally cheap would be great? I am looking for something to catch all this rainwater we've been having here in QLD. if anyone can help please contact me at mrhoneycutt@internode.on.net

hey bella,

go on bite the bullet buy a newy and get a poly tank they out last those metal things. and my recom's no less than 3k gallons 5k gallons even heaps better, go for it you won't regeret it. if you buy a newy get it delivered and sited onsite for example a 5K empty poly weighs in at around 400k.

I hate to sound pessimistic, but when it's raining isn't the right time to think about buying a tank. You will need to prepare the site, so that it is flat and level and packed tight so there won't be any sinkage once your tank is full of water. In our case that required hiring a bob cat to level the site, getting in a truck load of sand and having someone come in with a whacker to pack it down tight.
We bit the bullent and bought a large poly tank. They delivered it, but as the site wasn't prepared, they left it lying on it's side. Moving it into position wasn't a problem but it took 8 men (we picked the ones with the most muscle from our programming team - LOL). and some beers for the muscle men.
Then the waiting began. As we were building on a double story to our house and reroofing, it was another 3 months before the guttering and downpipes were done, and it could be connected up and start catching rain.
You shouldn't have that long a wait, but you MAY need to alter the guttering on your roof, so that it flows in the right direction. You may have to get a roofing plumber to do that, and if they are like Vic plumbers, they are booked up for weeks ahead.
You can simply run an overhead pipe to your tank if it is close to the house, but you may need to get a ditch witch in to dig a trench, and run a downpipe into the trench, along to your tank, and up the side of the tank.
I guess what I am saying is there isn't really an easy way, and if you are going to all that trouble, even if you are doing it yourself, or with the help of friends, then you may as well buy a good tank to start with, and not one someone is selling cheap. (you would have to ask yourself why someone would be selling a good tank these days?) It still has to be set up to catch the rain, whatever you get, and it aint easy.

Not realtors, but the people who handle household estate sales. They come into the homes after the grandparents have passed on, price everything, and run a three day sale. Like a rummage sale, but it's actually inside the house. And almost always when an elderly couple has passed on. Many families use this, especially if they are out of state, as they don't have to price everything themselves, sit and run a sale. (usually the family takes the few pieces of Grandma's things they want first. But how much of Grandma's stuff can one move into their own home? So, the rest gets sold.) The estate sale dealers work off a percentage of sales. Oh, and bring some pocket money with you. Some of my favorite gardening tools have been purchased inexpensively at estate sales ;-) You'll find their ads in the rummage sale sections of the papers. Just go to one of the sales, (Not the first day, they are too busy then, and afternoon is usually a less busy time) and strike up a conversation. Some may be aware of an estate sale dealer doing this. I knew one fellow in my town that mentioned he might do this, but he went out of business, and I lost contact with him. Very frequently, (in fact almost always,) the home that an estate sale is being held at will be up for sale itself, if not alredy listed. Some of those very homes might be slated for demolition, or extensive remodel. While at sales, I've heard folks offering to purchase old windows, cabinetry, built-in appliances that were not offered for sale, but it was somehow mentioned the home was to be going under a renovation. (The most memorable, a 1950's pink wall oven and gas cook top, in excellent condition. The potential purchaser was soo excited about her find!! And, I believe she probably got it.) And January to April seems to be a strong time of year for estate sales. Winter holidays unfortunately bring lots of funerals. I would agree that real estate agent would probably get testy about this. They are looking for big sales comissions. The estate sale dealers are the ones who will work for nickels (Those nickels add up, and it's the thrill of the hunt with recycling types ;-) I hope you find some leads on this. Joel, epoxy is inert and more stable timewise than concrete or even cross linked polyethelene. Keep in mind that you want to use a Marine grade epoxy like West Systems. If you do not want to use epoxy, if you clean and prep the tank really well, wash it down with muratic acid, you can then coat the tank with a bonding agent, and trowel on a parge coat of acrylic and fiber reinforced topping cement. Mix it up thick and stiff. You need to trowel it, not pour it. To get a smooth surface, keep trowelling and polishing the coat until it is rock hard. That 120 gallons that Canadians use is just suburban use, and does not include farm irrigation water. The trick is to use the 80 or 120 gallon figure as an estimate to determine cistern size. Four homes sharing a 600 gallon tank, even though it is refilled during the day, is small if there are more than two people in each home. You may want to consider irrigating at night, or adopting less consumptive irrigation methods like drip.

I live in Sheepshead Bay near the ocean and we get some stiff breezes. Gaillardia, echinacia, (e.g. White Swan, any purpurea variant), ornamental grass, (e.g., blue fescue), low growing coreopsis, should work. Good luck with a trellis and vines. If you want to grow vegetables, Redbor kale, Rhubarb or Charlotte swiss chard will do well in containers. During the summer basil should be OK as well as thyme, oregano. My soil mix is compost/manure, you may want to add 25% peat to lighten the weight, and cups of perlite for drainage. Good luck. Enjoy. I'm in Bavaria twice a year and often out of touch.

Cschmelz, I gather you're in the Spokane area? I'm in Missoula, and I have a Climatemaster Tranquility 27, installed two years ago. It provides heat and air conditioning for our century old stucco bungalo. You might be able to find some of my old posts by searching this forum. I noted just a couple of things in your post. First off, I thought the price for the basic heat pump installation with ground loops was pretty reasonable for this sort of thing. Second, I wondered why your contractor felt the necessity for adding a solar collector to improve the performance during the winter. My thought, and I may well be wrong, is that if the ground loop is large enough and deep enough you should have no need to help it with the water-to-water/solar collector, which stirked me as Rube Goldbergish. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). That assumes, of course, that your 10 tons of heating/cooling is sufficient. As for hot water you may well find that with the desuperheater on at least one of your Climatemasters that you don't need a very large or even efficient water heater. Again, I may well be wrong, but if that heat pump is properly sized and installed and backs up a conventional 40-50 gallon gas water heater you'll have everything you need. Of course, if you have three teenagers you'll need all the hot water you can get, and all my guesses are hereby withdrawn. Caveat: I ain't no engineer or installer, and there are better minds than mind on this forum, but that's my two bits for what it's worth. Good luck, Mark

And if you could find one it would not be cheap then there is transpsort.
So do as Len says get a newie. What beautiful rain apart from the 23mm we got last evening.
And the drizzle this morning we have not had any for over two weeks so you are so lucky.

We have a 15,000 lire tank from Bundaberg Plastics. Well made and a good price. We have another 15,000 on order. Just finished preparing the site.

bundy poly products tanks are very popular in the bush, got some specials at the mo' last i heard sell pumps as well maybe a package deal?
