Francis, your plant looks great, though some more light might make it more compact. It is not hanging (yet) because your glossy stemmed plant is a Hatiora salicornioides, the dancing bones cactus, not a hairy Rhipsalis. It will start to hang down eventually, but that will take a while.

Maria Elena has given you excellent advice. As tropical cacti, these plants don't need callousing over (like desert or arid land cacti), they'll do fine rooted into soil as suggested. They can be planted right away, or sometimes I'll way overnight before potting up the cuttings. I grow different Rhipalis, but use a mixture of roughly 1/3 each Perlite, Cactus & Succulent Soil & Reptibark (some small bark available at pet stores). I see you're in Scotland, no idea what soil amendments are available to you, perhaps best to ask at your local garden supply place. I agree w/ Rina that the lower portion of the plant looks rather dry (in your last pic), almost dead (not corking). If mine, I'd be tempted to cut off all the new green growth & start them over, in new pots of fresh mix as I've suggested. To be honest, if mine, I'd unpot the entire thing, see what the state of the roots is below & likely cut off all the lower, mostly dead seeming growth & discard it, keeping the upper, new growth to restart as discussed.

Les, I've tried to keep up with the updates on that plant, which I originally bought in 2016 from Tropiflora as Rhipsalis agudoensis but that they've since revised as you noted to Hatiora. Have copied below some of the comments they've published on the matter, and it sounds to me like the ID of these plants is still in flux. In case you want to email or call them to get more information, the catalog number of the plant I bought and shared with you was 7895. HATIORA SPECIES (OLD AGUDOENSIS) A rare species from Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil where it grows as an epiphyte and lithophyte. A very handsome species with short, flattened, segmented stems that later become three or four angled with age. New growth tends to be reddish. Upright at first then becoming pendant with maturity. There is some question about this species taxonomic place and future nomenclature changes may be made, but for now at least, this is the accepted name for this taxa. A choice, decorative and hard to find plant.
