What's everyone doing for Christmas?

We always have Christmas at home as having our own business means we don't get much time off and as most of our relatives are at least a couple of hours away we don't want to spend time driving in the car all Christmas day. We used to do this but the kids complained that they couldn't play with pressies or have fun and it was always a rush to get anywhere, so we told everyone that we will be staying home Xmas day every year but will visit on Boxing Day. I used to dread Xmas day with all the hassles. The family is always welcome to come here which they do every 3 or 4 years when our turn comes around.

With one side of our family, because we are more widespread, every year between Xmas and New Year we all get together in a park somewhere for lunch.

Christmas Day is now so much more relaxing - except for the new family tradition of having water bomb fights (it's good to act like a kid sometimes) - and we enjoy an easy, no hassles BBQ lunch.

We do pretty much the same thing. We all go to Melbourne for the weekend 2 weekends before christmas day and whole family (about 100 or so) gather at my brother's house.
Then all the families have their own chritmas day on their own as there are so many of us all interstate now.
This christmas day my brother in law and his 6 (yes 6) children are staying with us from Dublin, so we are all seafooding around the pool. So all up with family and friends I have 32 people for lunch.
Then we are going to our farm for boxing day and new year, which is a BYO tent affair.

Whitecat8 Ive been growing in terrariums 7-8 yrs. now and I have them closed off to air. The only new air they get is when I open them to check a plant or to water. Watering is needed usually every 2-3 months this way. A couple I have going need a bit of water only once a year. My orchids and Hoya's I grow this way love it. I have 18 terrariums going at this time. The teardrop ornaments have a 2 inch round opening so unless the opening is covered with saran wrap it would have air flow. Ive eyed the Den. toressae several times and its def. on my "gotta have cause I can't live without" list! There's a few others on my list of course and as soon as Oklahoma sees Spring I'll be getting a nice order out to Andy. I mainly grow mini and micro mini orchids. I met Andy at an orchid show in TX. and he is a very nice guy and full of info! It was nice to hand pick my orchids and see some he had just got in and hadn't put on his site yet.,,,,Debbie

Yea!! Glad everyone had a great christmas! Karen, your tank is very nice! Do you have CO2 on your tank? Hint- If you grow golden creeping jenny in your garden, you can pull a few strands of it and plant it in your aquarium, it grows submerged too! Just needs bright light. It has done well in mine, I like the bright yellow color against my green plants. I would post a pic of my tank, but its a bow front, and the pics never turn out that great. Wow, it must be nice to still have 70 degree days this time a year! im jealous. Perfect digging weather! on the other hand if it was warm here all year long, id be even broker, and have less grass, due to too many orders of DL's! lol! well I guess I better start taking all the empty toy boxes out, my house is carpeted with them, and the toys too. The thought has crossed my mind too YQ. Once I get organised I will start looking forward to it. That will probably be midnight Christmas eve!!

We are going to my daughter and son-in-laws for a casual bbq lunch. We all help out with the food. Most relaxing. Can't wait to watch my (nearly) 4yr old grand daughter open her pressies. That's the best part! Later over to friend's house for drinks then we will crash at home in front of the telly for an evening of mindless entertainment.

Last year we drove for 3 hours to brother and sister-in-law's... It was hot, and we sat outside under the clothesline - there was very little shade. The only way we knew it was 'Christmas dinner' and not a barbie, was the plastic Christmas table cloth. This year they invited us up again. "We're not going to any trouble!" they told us... (Really!)

This year we are having Yule at our house with my brother and his wife and kids. I do the whole thing and love every minute of it. On Yuletide we start by opening prezzies, then breakfast of croissants and home made jam, (strawberry and cherry being essential). About 10-11 we have prawns in some form, either garlic if it is cool weather or prawn cocktails if it is hot. After that the spouse starts making cocktails. Dinner is between 1-2. I make a duck roll and we have a roast pork, NO ham or turkey! Then about 2-3 we have Yule pudding, or raspberry tart (home-grown fresh raspberries) and there is always 'The Tray'. The Tray has truffles, little shortbreads, macaroons, mini-puds and rum-balls. It's all a bit Martha Stewart, with the decorations, food and table setting, but I really enjoy doing it, so no bah humbug in THIS house! After all, it's Yuletide, the one day of the year when we don't mind going to a bit of trouble for friends and family!

Hubby is driving 3.5 hours each way to do Christmas lunch with his family. I'll be at Robyn's!

Merry Christmas everybody and a Happy New Year. We've just had a very pleasant Melbourne summer barbecue, for Christmas Eve, inside because it rained. My daughter and her husband invited my grandson, his wife and her parents, my husband and myself, as my grand-daughter-in- law, (?) and her family, are off to the Dandenongs for Christmas Day with her brother and his fiance. Very chancey as my first great-grandchild is very imminent. To-day, it's back to my daughter's, for her turn to entertain some of her husband's enormous close family, about forty can make it, with everyone bringing something traditional towards the feast. A squabbly lot, I'm afraid, so I'll go with a seraphic smile glued to my face, and play with the three little grandchildren, who love Christmas. Peace to everyone.
