I am finding that the conditions a Salvia has experienced 6, even 9, months previously has a big effect on bloom time. There are at least these three factors involved; The length of time the plant was cut back, and how mature it is to begin with. The time of year it was cut back. The temperature conditions following its haircut. Long-day (summer) blooming sages don't seem to be affected as much as short-day (winter, late autumn) bloomers. The out of season blooming can be cut short by heat spells. I would expect that prolonged optimal blooming temps out of season along the Pacific Coast to cause a lot of variance with short day plants. I don't see a lot of this where arid environments predominate. Here in North Carolina, this effect is unpredictable and needs to be studied.

Overwatering? Is your plant wilting but it looks like it has plenty of water? The roots of plants take up water and also oxygen to survive and thrive. Soil that is constantly wet won’t have enough air pockets and plants will not be able to breathe by taking up oxygen with their roots. Just my wild guess. Hope it helps.

I would imagine that you would just replace whatever sage is in the directions for making a smudge stick with the pineapple sage.

Because it seems I am always a good two weeks behind, I am only just now bringing my houseplants back inside for the winter. I was also going to try to winter over my containerized Golden Delicious pineapple sage indoors. But it is only now......October 31st........that I see signs of flowering. Some nice fat buds showing a lot of color! No frost on the horizon yet but still pretty darn chilly at night. And while it has been beautifully sunny for the last week or so, also not at all warm during the day. Lucky if we hit 50F. But I am going to risk it and leave it out for a few more days with some hope that those fat buds may actually open. And provide a mid fall treat for the hummers! As stressed as it might be with current temps, I am sure it is much happier outside in the sun than it would be in my rather dark, cave-like house :-)
