Wait a little longer, and you will know for sure, this species, comes in different shapes, tubes, open and flat shapes, and they come up freely in all pots, rugs, cracks, in my back seat on the floor in my car. But they do have beautiful red flowers, and can become nusense. I am constantly pulling them out. Kalanchoe tubiflora these leaves will have a groove on the upper surface the leaves will have wonderful markings a great plant to share with young children in schools. I have 'donkey ears', Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri does the leaves pf this baby plantlet have scalloped edges? and the leaves pruinose? if so that is what your plant could be. Norma

Folks Yale is our expert here on Kalanchoe, Yale I may have found a new one for you, huge leaves is growing out in the sun, and cold doing well, I was told it has pink flowers, would love to share with you. The one you don't know the leaves are smaller and turn orange. Mine is dead I may be able to get another from the Huntington Gardens, perhaps. Mine big leaf one came from Ferwood Nursery Rogers Weld. T one that was shown here tonight, the leaves are in the shape of Gastonis-Bonneriera, hers may not have had enough sun to develope the markings, it also has a bloom on the leaves, hers doesn't seem so in the picture. No, keep it. I think that one is pretty cool. But do run in the other direction if anyone ever offers the MOT. I live where it DOES freeze every winter. I think this is the first year in probably 25 that I haven't found any "babies" in any of my pots. (Knock on wood...) We'll see if I can say the same thing next winter. One year, when I brought all my plants in for the fall, I found gobs of them growing in the cracks on my wood deck. How the heck did they get there, I wondered... Back when I was a kid, we lived in a house that had (perplexingly) shag carpet in the bathroom. Mushrooms used to sprout up next to the bathtub. MOT reminds me of those hideous mushrooms! On the other hand, years ago, I let one grow on the south side of my house (in the ground), up to a 4' tall "tree." I brought it in and it bloomed... Pretty flowers! But Kalanchoes look like crap here in the winter, so I tossed it after it bloomed. And I don't grow any at all these days. thank you both! I think Yale is right, I think it is a Mortagei. I found a link (sorry not the best photo) from the Huntington botanical gardens that looks about right: http://huntingtonbotanical.org/WhatsInBloom/feb07/feb07-Pages/Image34.html The leaflets definitely concentrate on the tip and then get sparser as they move toward the base. hopefully I can get him to bloom next winter! any advice as far as the light needs of this plant? In the photo from Huntington they look like theyre getting more direct sun than mine does (which is none). thanks again!
