Try a search for "CO oraganic soil" and also Craigs List which currently has about 5 free offers. For free you could rent a truck at $19 and come out well on the cost side. The other option is to fill those planters with leaves, grasses, newspaper and start again for next spring. Perhaps take the plants you have now and put them in pots for this year, if it is early for some cover them with milk bottles or large baggies with holes. We still have 3 weeks for planting most of our veggies. Gardening takes time, we all need the patience for nature to take it's course. Even planning ahead can find nature changing it's direction. If I could have my whole yard done this year it would be wonderful, but reality is this won't happen.....so I remind myself that patience is at the head of the list. One early spring day about 20 years ago, one of our bonsai club's officers and I went downstate shopping for deciduous plant material for a workshop we were planning. They were Jacqueline Hillier elms in 2 gal pots at $27/ea. 2 weeks later I went back to buy 7 of the trees for those who signed up for the workshop and the trees had been bumped to 3 gallon pots and priced at $49 ..... and they wouldn't sell me 7 at the old price for the club, so I left. Ornamental grasses come in two types (turf grasses as well but that's another discussion) - cool season grasses and warm season grasses. Pennisetum - fountain grass - is a warm season type. That means it grows vigorously in summer and once it produces flower heads in mid to late summer or early fall, it starts to go dormant and the roots stop elongating. The established modus operandi all for warm season grasses is that they should be planted, divided or transplanted only at the start of their growing season as the roots will not 'take' or establish in colder weather or when they begin to go dormant. How much of a concern that might be for you is questionable but it IS an issue in my zone 9a winter climate!
