My Galtonia plants are going dormant. Does anybody know how long the bulbs need to "rest" before I can re-grow them in my indoor grow room? Any tips on how to prepare the bulbs so that I can re-plant and re-grow them indoors this winter is much appreciated! Oh, and does anyone know if this year�s seeds can be planted indoors now?

Galtonia are one of my favorites. Is your soil well drained where you have planted them? Yellow leaves have never been a problem for me. I also multiply mine by saving and planting from seed which will bloom the second year. Al

The only one I have grown is the Nerine alba, and it was in afternoon shade with deep watering occasionally - it was in the same planting as the Ornithogalum umbellatum (Star of Bethlehem). http://desert-tropicals.com/ has a large collection of what has been grown (or not) in Arizona's low desert. http://desert-tropicals.com/Plants/sci_names.html has the links to the scientific names. sunset.com also has a plant search that might help you find growing conditions. Keep in mind that when most garden sites say "full sun" they don't mean full Pakistani or Arizona desert sun. They mean full sun in England or San Diego. Morning sun and afternoon shade usually works well for non-native plants in the desert. I know the Galtonia likes it moist and slightly shady, others might prefer dry summer and wet autumn. I'd plant them in pots this year and do a bit of research in your local gardening community. Someone might be growing them near you.

OMG Marie - I don't want to be a downer, but did you read the negative feedback at Garden Watchdog? The most protracted rant came from a lady who did exactly what you are proposing and sounded like she wanted to go back in time and dope slap that very idea out of her own head by the end of her ordeal. That being said, I HAVE done a group order of Helebores on a smaller scale from SG and it was OK. There were only three of us - Dee, another swapper friend and I. The plants were nice enough, but small as should be expected. Nothing that has inspired me to order from him again, but I wouldn't totally rule it out. I get their emails and laugh at their pricing because whether it is something exotic-ish or as common as Garlic chives he seems to charge the same two pricing structures for everything and presents it with the same huckster patter. Of course he also has some good growing information to impart also. He must really be a character in person.
