White flowers in a planter?

Anyone have good ideas for plants for white flowers? Preferably large blooms, preferably a long flowering season, preferably a perennial, or very small shrub, and preferably frost hardy (too forgetful to remember to move/shelter it ). The planter is an old white "urn" type, about knee high.

My patio is going to be my White Garden, 'cos it should look awesome late in the evenings (hope, hope).

How about a white hydrangia, , cant think of any thing else at present. Sounds a nice idea, Ive got pots full of white impatiens under a large camelia and they sure brighten the area up particularly at night. cheers yvonnej

What about a white buddleia. If you get a young one, and tip prune it frequently, it will make a very shrubby shape, instead of getting leggy. Just before it sets flower buds, tip prune it into a nice ball shape, and you will get masses of blooms on short stems. After bloom trim it back very hard and repeat the cycle of tip pruning. These are very tough, and forgiving plants.
A snowball tree (Viburnum Opulis Sterile form) might be a good alternative, and I would treat it in a similar fashion, although the growth won't be as rapid.

I plant in the concrete blocks on side...bordering flowerbeds. I think the pavers would be porous enough to drain. Also the glue would probably leave some spots not covered and it would drain there. It was suggested to me to line mine with something to keep out the weeds. So if you use no bottom consider that. Also one hint I received was to put in a piece of baby diaper in bottom to retain water. The kind that says it say the little beads that grab the liquid and keep it from leakin. But I have not done that yet. Maybe this spring as I clean them up. I also was thinking of ways to raise it up just a bit....maybe a smaller paver under the bottom? Wonder if painting it with the auto underbody paint would retain some of the water towards the bottom half or third of the 'pot'.

Gail knows I am a pack rat, so I knew she would understand.................LOL> Just never know when you may need one of those items you planned to throw away. Even when I "clean up", I usually put more back than I throw away...................it's a sickness.............LOL Also, Gail, the neighbors may weigh in on the "crazy lady" when they hear me banging on the pie tin with a metal spoon trying to chase the cowbirds away from the feeder so the little birds can eat.

I would get a garden fork and start digging them up. As you do that, you can see if there are still any roots and get them too. If you want advice on the soil in the soon-to-be-garden, or flowers that do well in your area ( which we will need to know - Zone and state), you need to post in 1) the Soil, Compost & Mulch Forum and 2) the Perennials Forum. I also recommend looking into the forum for your state or area, as this particular forum is not all the busy. Have fun and good luck!

With the first one at least the idea is presumably that it is so tall that the damp/wet zone in the bottom does not reach all the way up to where the plants are, flood them and kill them. And (without reading the material you linked to) surely the self watering concept involves not watering nearly as much as when there are drain holes. That this reduced watering is the main selling point.

How about a dwarf marguerite daisy? They flower practically nonstop... or a white penstemmen , "Snowstorm" is very nice. Another option could be a white fuschia bush but they don't look good over winter, or of course there are roses. Flowercarpet white comes to mind.

Gardenia? You could combine a shrub, say the buddleia, with white petunias round the base, or large white pansies. OK, they are annuals, but gorgeous.
