What does a borage seedling look like?

I sowed some borage seeds on Monday. Since then, it has stormed a lot this week and a lot of weed seedlings have come up. One seedling had a stout stem with silvery leaves and hairs. I don't want to pull out my borage by mistake, so am wondering what a borage seedling looks like. Thanks.

Saintin, that sounds right... rounded smooth seed leaves, then another pair of hairy ones follow that. Borage is VERY easy to grow from seed, I can pretty much guarantee you'll get some eventually if you leave the bed a while.

The seedling I mentioned had hairy seedling leaves. That's not borage is it? How big are the seedling leaves when the borage cotyledons emerge? I'll try and get a picture of the seedling, once it stops raining of course!

Yeah apple was my second guess.. I just wasn't sure cause I the leafs seemed thinner. But your right, they could be anything. Its just these peaches that I found them under were no where near the apples. Maybe they're cherries? Cause a bird could've easily eaten one and dropped the seeds out the read. And its not like a bird ate an apple.

Orientale poppies are actually hybrids of various types: consequently, there is no uniformity in their foliage habit. Some are paler green, some more bluish. Some have leaves which are only lightly cut while others are very lacinate indeed. Texture also can be variable - from papery, tissue-like leaves to robust, hairy leafage. All will form a distinct rosette with varying degrees of downy covering and all the leaves will have some form of notching. In Linnea's case, it will be very easy to distinguish between the different plants but you may find, Rob, that you will have to look for a typical style and shape and make allowances for a degree of uncertainty.

Cool, thanks Jamus. I found another seedling in the beans' bed today that looked similar to the one I found in the radishes' bed. Will get a picture as soon as possible now that the rain has stopped.

I'm sure a lot of the gardeners in here are quite skilled at identifying seedlings... I recognise most things that come up in my garden from a very early stage.
