Herbs - Australia

Eclipta prostrata

Is anyone familiar with this herb? Have any tips, information, fables etc regarding it's use, traditonal or contemporary. When I bought my tree there was a small plant of this herb in the pot with it. The fellow I got it from told me what it was and made me promise not to pull it out. He seemed to think it' was valuable. lol

I suppose you've already done a search? This is what I came up with.

Hi Daisy, yeah I did the same search and have looked it up in my books.

If anyone (in south australia) wants this plant please shout. I'm going to pull it out anyway so if you are interested in eastern herbal medicine I'd be happy to give it away. I don't think I'll keep it. It is quite vigorous and is of no use to me.

See the link below for a description of uses...

garren, Thanks! Here is what I got from USC Herbarium when I sent the pictures: Plant 1: one of the "sandmat spurges" or "eyebane spurges". The genus is Chamaesyce. Probably the species Chamaesyce nutans, (it is difficult to say without having a specimen.) without having a specimen at hand. Common yard weed. Plant 2: "Yerba buena"... the scientific name is Eclipta prostrata. Sunflower family. Native of South America

Surely not Eclipta prostrata?

Thanks kaliaman. We have lots of Eclipta prostrata in this area, and they're usually 1 to 2 feet tall with much larger flowers and leaves around 3-6 inches long. I find it amazing that the plant on the golf course could be the same species, but guess that's the probable answer. Also appreciate your input rugbyhuker. Mesembryanthemum is a new genus for me, so was interesting to read about.

jekeesl, I think that's it. It is said that it's used in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, but I don't think I will keep them. The strange thing is that they only invade the flower beds in the front and nowhere else.
