Well, unfortunately I canÂt do anything about our 80-degree temps during the day, though nights are a bit cooler. Is that whatÂs keeping them from getting any bigger? They have to be about 8 weeks from germination by now but they are miniscule in sizeÂÂweÂre talking no height to speak of and not even 1 mm (yes, you read that right) wide. Nowhere near big enough to plant out. They are not going dormant, they are just sitting there. How can I encourage them to grow more?

Fantastic list of seeds! I think it is just great that you have focused your life on nature at such a young age. I too would love to have 10 (maybe 5) acres someday to plant a wonderland of natives plants, and am already doing that on 1.25 acres. Difference is, my interest didn't come into sharp focus until age 45. :) There are quite a few seeds on this list I am interested in, and I checked your want list and I have a few on that list. Maybe we can do a trade this fall? Just a note - on your want list is Cynanchum louiseae - this is an extremely invasive non-native vine that is becoming a serious problem in the Northeast US. And it has the additional problem that Monarch butterflies will "sense" it is in the Milkweed family, lay eggs on it, and then it will kill the caterpillars because it is toxic to Monarch larvae.

I often find these plants difficult to transplant, but I have had some successes with fairly mature container plants. Cullina says these plants resent disturbance and that you need to keep them watered the first year. I just planted some from a rescue, and they look very wilted. I am not sure they will make it. I think your PH may be a little high as the site for the rescue has somewhat acidic soils. On the web there is a PH list, and gentian is listed 5.5. - 7.5, so that may not be a problem.

Clothiers: Gentiana andrewsii, , Sow at 64-71F for 2-4 weeks, move to 24-39F for 4-6 weeks, move to 41-53F for germination, cover thinly. If mine, I'd do what you describe, sow and keep the container in the house for approx. 3 weeks. If you are anything like me, you'll want to date it and not trust what you've done to memory ;) Some of the warm, cold, cool cycle germinators very specifically need that sequence of temperatures to break seed dormancy. Sowing and beginning with the cold and they might wait a full year in their pots until they have experienced the range of temps in the right order - its happened to me with tree peony for example (and I now Fall sow them). That's my method for hellebores too, iris, a few other things. Problem is, sometimes - for some plants - if you have very fresh seed, they'll just go ahead and germinate with some moisture and warmth and then you're committed to keeping them inside until Spring. I don't expect that to happen with your gentian.
