Anyone looking for a great place to photograph chipmonks

A great place to photograph chipmonks is the last rest area on rt. 89 in Vermont going towards New Hampshire. It is only about 1mi. to the New Hampshire line. They have a natural habit built right at the service area. There is no fences and you can walk right up to their dens. They are quite tame. Unfortunately, I didn't bring a camera when I was there. I may go back this year. The chipmonks in Vermont are much more pretty than the ones in Pa. In Pa. the have black brown and white in their coats. In Vermont they have black brown and white and gold in their coats. You may want to bring some treats to intice them. For the best pics dont stand up and shoot down on them. Lay down on your belly and shoot at their level. Happy hunting.

They might be more attractive in Vermont or New Hampshire But they are more abundant and agressive in my Pennsylvania backyard they have their little holes all over the place and especially along the stone walls And they are always going into my screened in porch and garage to get out of the rain and they love to eat my plants. They are also very noisy too with their high shreiking chippy noisy! They hop and run around like crazy and they jump so high I can't believe it plus they can climb trees quite well! I think I will try to get a picture of them this summer they are hibernating now! I think there's a population explosion here. Sarah

I think the Pa. Chipmunks are as handsome as any of their more Northern Buddies...LOL

Not a fan of small rodents. Not because they scare me or anything, I used to raise fancy mice. They ALL tend to be destructive. Field mice won't allow any balloon flowers or relatives in my garden, they will be eaten withing a day (they also eat obedient plant, but only when it's close to flowering). Chipmonks ate every flower head off of my cornflowers. Red squirrels...my grandma used to shoot them on sight, and I understand why! I found one in my potting shed the other day and MAN I was wishing I had her .22 with me when I opened those doors! Instead I made that click click click type noise the grays make and it took off like a shot. I'm sure it'll be back in there. We had damage from them in our house when we bought it, I'd rather not see them around at all. I considered taking out the few pines/spruces around to encourage them to move on, but I have to wonder if they've adapted enough not to care...

Lucky you, Lainey--it looks like a lovely place to visit and I'm glad you had a nice time with E,O. and Patsy! It's always fun to put a real live human being with a forum name and relationship! We stayed somewhere else. We had our four kids with us at the time and the large rooms/suites were pricey and I suspect look much like regular hotel rooms. We all went on a boat ride on the indoor river and had a family photo taken while we were in the boat. The kids loved that and enjoyed the waterfalls and bridges and just being up high looking out over the gardens. The Frommers link says there's nine acres of indoor gardens. They had three separate atriums but they were all connected. I don't believe the plants were labled like they might be at a botanical garden but still a nice place to visit. Of course, in Hawaii, those plants could be grown outside but this is a little closer, so I thought someone might want to make the trip someday. Bunny - I don't know what the plant is in the first photo. I liked it though. Maybe someone else will know what it is.

I love chippies. What a great photo. We see the occasional one here. Our cats brought a couple of live ones a few months ago, I had a heck of a time shooing them back outside, they are faster than lightning!

Ahhhh...what a cutie!
Don't have Chipmonks in the Houston, Tx area, have to depend on the Squirrel's to entertain us - and they do a good job... :-)
