Look at the stems where they meet the rockwool and see if they look pinched. They will break at the pinched part very easily. If that is the case, what you have is a common bacterial problem that goes by several names like Damping Off, Dampening Off, and Falling Over Disease. All plants get it, not just hydro. It occurs when the bad bacteria in your system or soil, typically Pythium, overwhelm the good bacteria. Look at your roots to see if they are white or brown. Brown roots indicate root rot, which is yet another name for a Pythium problem. If your root chamber is going six hours between waterings, it will have plenty of time to work its way up to the air temperature. The higher the root zone temp, the faster the Pythium grows. It's tricky, though, because if you keep the rockwool too wet, that will also cause rot. If it is Pythium, you can try keeping your reservoir and root chamber cooler. clemrick, Here's a snippet from WaMu's press release... "...``well capitalized'' with more than $40 billion in liquidity and $150 billion in retail deposits. The company's tangible equity to tangible assets ratio is 7.8 percent as of June 30,..." Their statement is basically worthless goop... 1.) The $40B in liquidity means they have some cash plus available lines of credit that equal that amount. The lines of credit can vanish if the bank's position deteriorates enough to scare the providers of those lines of credit. 2.) $150B in deposits just means that they have a large retail deposit base. So what. You're right...those deposits can be withdrawn with 'some' restrictions on CDs, etc. Anyway, this part of the statement really doesn't mean much. 3.) Asset ratio of 7.8%...frankly, I'm surprised to read it's that much. And, it doesn't address whether the ratio includes contingent liabilities. Contingent liabilities, such as guarantees on the mortgage securitizations they sold to the Street, could be huge & not accounted for in the 7.8%. Their statement does not tell us? The statement was released to calm the masses. gamecock43, Your funds under $100K 'should' be OK. Do banks make accounting mistakes & lose information? Sure they do. Is it likely? Probably not. But, if I were you...I'd continue trying to get a print out of your statement. It's always a very good idea to know where your money's residing, right? Nancy, I moved funds out of a Money Market account this past Saturday & moved them to a safer institution's 15-month, 4.00 APY CD. Many money market funds own the GSEs. Since I don't know exactly how deep the problems are...better safe than sorry type of thing plus the rate was good for short-term funds. /tricia

Karlene, I thought of you yesterday while I was taking a class on bindings. The instructor was showing samples of different scallop curves and discussing the "how tos". She said a very good, experienced friend needed help on her scalloped bias edged binding and struggled for so long that she finally cut it off the quilt and did a straight edge, she was so frustrated. The point was - it was better to do that than produce a poor job & I thought to myself 'or loose your mojo like Karlene!' You persevered, You won - Yea -You got your Majo back!!!! I also like your quilt. You should be proud for many reasons!

Just know that you are not alone. I am struggling also everyday and it seems I am not going to make it, so I know where you are coming from. Most people on the KT do not know how it is not having enough money to pay everything each week. I get so upset when I go to the grocery store and can only afford generic cheerios and milk to eat all week. I am not trying to make you feel sorry for me but just as an example to let you know I do know how it is. My son is in college and I cling to the hope that I can be there when he graduates. That is the only thing that keeps me going now. The way our economy is now the poor are getting poorer and the middle class are sinking down to poverty level. I feel for the little children who can't help themselves. My second job played out in May because of cutbacks and I haven't been able to find another compatible with my first. I've worked front office for a diabetic doctor for nearly 8 years now. There are drug assistance programs for lots of the medicines if you have no drug coverage, that maybe I can help you with.
