Rotesmere, aka Purple Pavement was my original rose purchase about 15 years ago. Here it is unkillable. It requires no maintenance to thrive. The blooms are a beautiful magenta and the fragrance is powerful. It is the first rose to bloom here with a giant spring display. Small flushes follow throughout the season. The bush form is actually best described as a clump. Many suckers appear each season but normally within 12-18" of the base. My original plant is now 6' across with hundreds of canes forming a tight mass that nothing larger than a mouse could penetrate. If I didn't continually remove sucker children, it might be 10' wide. A perfect choice for a hedge, will get 5' tall if not trimmed.. Below, Rotesmere is behind the pot partially obscrued by the post:

Michael, I grew Pierrette and Purple Pavement, but in only three years, their suckering got out of hand, so I gave them away. They were about 4 feet tall then. I still have Snow Pavement, around 4-l/2 feet tall, which also suckers, but so far not as much. Mine were all own root, though, so I guess buying grafted ones would solve that problem...for a while, anyway, until they go own root. Maybe you could take a look at Frau Dagmar Hastrup (I'm sure I've spelled it incorrectly again), since she has stayed quite short for me, and doesn't appear to be suckering. Plus she seems to be a little more shade tolerant than the others. Good luck with your choice. Judith

Sorry John I clicked on your profile and saw your location. You lucky devil I typed in one of your zip codes. There are at least 30 nurseries in your area that carry EE rose including Lowes and Menards. Ours never have them and I'm not that far from Chicago. Thats usually where I end up driving. Most likely you will also be able to find Campfire. It's not an EE but a newer intro from Canada. Highly recommend this rose if you like it that is.
