[smirk] @ Bruce & Pam I compromise between purchased pre-made bags and fancy home made solutions. I don't have ready access to tulle so I just wrap and tie shade cloth around branches I want to isolate pods on. Has worked for me so far ;-) I have in the past used "you fill" mesh tea bags. sjetski, I tried the gluing the bud before it flowers a couple of years ago. While good in theory, I'm not convinced it works in practice. I dipped four buds in glue and a few days later all four busted loose into bloom. seysonn, regarding "do c. chinese and c. annum (or others) cross?" See link below. Yes, pepper plants (they are not trees!!) will cross-pollinate freely. They are all just different varieties of the same exact plant. It will not affect the fruit in any way but seeds collected from that fruit will typically give rise to some indeterminate varieties.

Cross pollination affects only the seeds not the fruit itself of the current crop. Any crossing will show up the following year when those seeds are planted. Sure it is possible that you got some seed that had been crossed - especially from SeedSavers - but every effort is made by most commercial seed growers to prevent crossing. Many seed companies get most of their seeds from the same groups of growers so a crossed seed now and then in a packet isn't all that rare. But there are first class vendors as well as second and third and even fourth class vendors so it pays to use the better ones.
