Help me pick the color for my kitchen walls

I recently painted my cabinets Benjamin Moore White Dove, picked granite White Springs, and am getting shaw oak floor -- rifle oak. I will be getting backsplash in subway tiles rialto white by vallelunga. I can't decide on a color for the walls. Had thought of a light grey, but worry that will make everything fade.

Any ideas?

A color chart will help you... they are free at any store, home depot,etc... however, you can also buy small samples jar like paint and do a test by painting a small section on ur wall... that will be the best way before buying paint that you may regret later

I did some doodles for you. I leaned towards warm colors for two reasons: they would blend well with what you describe in adjoining rooms and they work a bit better with your warm toned cabinets. I tried some "cool" colors, and they just didn't mesh well. (I did a 'cool' gray and a terracotta so that you could see that the undertones were too cool, as in the gray, or the color fought the cabinets, as in the terracotta.) Not trying to steer you in any particular direction, but I've created an album of various colors/depths that seemed to fit the bill (and some that didn't ;) Some posted here, there are 2 pages of colors at the album I linked to below ;) Oh, almost forgot, left your crown molding white and painted the ceiling same color as walls so your crown molding wouldn't disappear. What some people do, rather than put the "full" wall color on the ceiling, is have the wall color mixed at 50 or 25% and use that reduction for the ceiling. That way there's a lighter version of the same color on the ceiling, blends well. An option if full wall color on the ceiling doesn't suit your taste ;) A golden tan A bit lighter version A very deep golden tan/acorn (historical type color) A lighter green with yellow undertones An apple green A richer apple green A mid level moss green An earthier moss A warm mocha If there are any other shades you'd like to see, give me a holler ;) I went through so many colors, these are the ones that came out the better. I'm back again and I've been putting up samples of some of the colors mentioned above as well as some green. I want a warm feeling in this room. Will using a sage green paint take away from the warmth? SW Sea Salt, SW Tidewater, and BM Thorton Sage all look too blue in my room. Now I am looking at SW6190 Filmy Green and BM 471 Tea Light. What do you think of these colors? WIll they overwhelm the space? Or are they light enough to give a little color without over powering? I hesitate because they are "cool neutrals."

island - Yes, we can paint the surround (we've been told). I'd like to live with it as is for awhile though. I do like the color...except for the darn pinkish tone that comes out in certain lighting! It was recommended to paint before installing the surround; maybe we'll just paint the fireplace wall to see if we like it before doing the rest of the room. Our leak caused water damage inside, and our repair turned into redecorating. At least we'll have a new family room when all is done!

Oh, my comments were not meant to be negative towards misschris15. I like being able to offer tips, advice, etc. I was thinking about a time earlier in my life, when I was more free spirited, and I all I cared about was what I like. Now, it is so much different, there are other factors that come into play when I make choices for my home. We are the end of remodeling our 3 bathrooms (at one time), and these were my thoughts pertaining to my choices for these 3 bathrooms. I was just reflecting!! Benjamin Moore Aura paints are really nice and you can easily coordinate an accent wall with them. I used the color called Seedling(maple cabinets, multi-colored slate look porcelain tile and soon to come I hope, soapstone counter.

I have a new idea. Linnet white lime green can be good, or maybe not, depending on if you want to tone ra contrast. I do not know why I suggest something that no one less than decisive for me. I was there until the end, but sometimes they have to repaint the walls.

When we picked out paint colors, we went through several phases:

We took pictures of the colors we had to the paint store and held up swatches to them to get a subset of colors we wanted. This got us to about 10 colors per room.

Then we went online to the paint's web site, where they had a room simulator that you could populate with colors. This got us down to about 3 colors per room.

We then bought sample jars of all our colors, and painted 3' x 4' sheets of posterboard (primed it first) and took turns proping them up on the wall (with 1" strips of trim color) so we could see what it looked like in the actual lighting at that location.

That got us down to the final colors, and we are very happy with the results. (Though there were some surprises. Remember that if you have lots of natural light, it is going to pick up the color of everything it hits, and reflect that color onto every other surface. When the sunset hits the floor to ceiling window of the light yellow 5' by 5' mud room, the entire room and the hall outside it is flooded with an intense yellow light. The result is a room that looks 5 shades deeper than the surrounding walls.)

I would never buy any paint that had black or gray mixed into it. Benjamin Moore Color Stories is the only line I would go with. That is pure color, and they do have light gray, but the entire color spectrum is mixed in there, and nothing is dead. It's living gray, and picks up all the colors in the room.

Google "full spectrum paint," and you will find vendors that will give you living color.
