Their web page is pretty quiet these days. I check every once in a while but since their return from Europe...it doesn't seem they have much time for "playing". Considering that's likely due to their business...that's probably a very good thing. There's a lot of talent tucked between those walls.

Kathi, I think the mark was on the sheep to identify it out in the field. I think multiple people's herds were in a pasture together. Other sheep were marked differently.

Uuuuuhhhhhh...noooooooooooooo. Let me explain.

That's a female ewe and a male ram wears a box around it's neck with colored crayon/chalk in it. When he mounts a female the chalk leaves it's mark. That's how the herdsman estimates who might be pregnant, when to expect the lamb....etc.

Nicole, you are probably right about the color marks. I saw both explanations when I looked into it. But this picture is from the same pasture.

I thought that other sheep was a ram, but probably not.

This must be the 'education channel'..... the things we learn here. I lived in the Highlands of Scotland for years, where sheep outnumbered people by hundreds, and did not know that was how those marks came to be. Gosh. Thanks.
