Elizabethan collars and supervision

Apparently my cat scratched my German Shepherds eye today while I was out. When I got back I took him to the vet and he's all set up with pain meds, anti-inflammatory meds, etc. And an E-collar. He's having a little trouble with his depth perception anyways since his one eye is so inflamed and has been banging into things, but overall he's taken to it well and hasn't been trying to get it off.

I have to take him in for another evaluation on Tuesday and he has to keep the e-collar on until then. I can spend all day with him Sunday but have to work on Monday. I'm thinking of taking him with me and letting him spend the day in the back of my SUV with his blanket and food & water so I can check on him every hour or so. Would he likely be fine unsupervised at home or is it best to take him with me? The temperature is fine for him to be in the vehicle, but he would probably be more comfortable at home.
