I also have a passion for barns especially if there is an old windmill by it. One of my friends made a slide show with them and I just love it. I grew up on a farm where we had a large red barn. I was the one who always got to paint it.

I have probably posted this before. That is my daughter, taken a couple years before this Kinzua Railroad bridge was hit by a tornado in 2003. The bridge has been part of a PA state park since 1963. This past week the remaining part of the bridge was reopened with a walkway out over the gorge with a glass bottomed viewing area. Hope to see it this fall. The bridge before the tornado. Pompeii is AWESOME. Visiting it and Herculaneum permanently and dramatically changed my understanding and conceptions of "ancient" peoples and their lives. Romans had such an advanced civilization (the positives in obvious and well known ways on display in these locations, without forgetting the negatives that were present in their society too in obvious and well known ways) . Their lives and surroundings (also visible in Rome, of course) had so many engineering and public works features two thousand years ago that are recognizable today as almost contemporary and modern in comparison to the abject poverty and deprivation that prevailed in so much of Europe for most of the medieval and later periods more than 1000 years later. And that remain lacking in many parts of the world today.

Since I don't come to the KT much anymore, I didn't know she had not been here for quite a while until I asked her if she still posted the daily "Show me yours ... " She said no. Like me, she's spending more of her free time on Facebook. But I'm certain she knows she's missed.
