You might want to run CheckDisk error checking on your hard drive - files don't normally disappear. But maybe it had a non legal filename or date for some reason.

From the run line or a command prompt ChkDsk /F
Or you can right click C drive and select properties - then the Tools tab. Error checking is there, put a check box in the top box only.

Two suggestions:

1) If these were files you created (and not downloaded), some programs show recently opened files when you click on File, Open, or even just File from the menu bar. Or,

2) The files may have landed in a different folder than where you're looking. Start Windows Explorer (choose following a right click on the start button), then highlight C: or Local Drive in the left column, then do a search for the file by putting in some or all of the file's name in the upper right box and then Enter.

I don't think most users who visit here for problem solving know what a command line is. Chkdsk is similarly unlikely to provide useful information or fix the problem.

I gave an alternative to the command line & Files don't disappear from a hard drive .. I would think ChkDsk is appropriate.

I have found Win7 uses my last save locatiion for the next save if the extensions match. IE a .txt file normally goes to recipes folder. But if I have a .txt file that I saved into plants folder and forget I've done that, the next .txt file days later will also save into plants folder.

For some reason I've yet to discover sometimes a .txt file will save into the premade folder that is part of Win7 called documents. I'm wondering if a certain update may cause that. I've never used that folder.

Guess I should have said that I took my old computer in to the shop. And they were to save the things from my old hard drive to the new computer. Well the original file is there but none of the file contents show up!! There is only the scrap kit I had in there and when I click to open only the tou's for the kit show up. Guess the files are gone forever. I have the original files on cd's but it will be a pain to re download them to the new computer. Thanks for the help
