I just finished remodeling my bathrooms. The designer gave me canned lights as well as wall sconces over the vanity area which are actually installed on the mirror - my vanity mirror runs from wall to wall with decorative mirror elements on top of the wall mirror. There is a can light over the shower. My sconces over the vanity really are there for aesthetics as I don't normally turn them on as the canned lighting is more than sufficient. California Code requires that lights in a bathroom have motion detectors which turn on and then off after a certain period of time with no motion. At first I thought I was going to find it strange - especially if I got up in the middle of the night - but I actually like them a lot as it is one less thing to have to remember to do. The only glitch was the first time I used the shower and I didn't also turn on the lights and so they turned off in the middle of the shower because evidently there wasn't enough motion for it to detect so I finished the shower in romantic twilight :-). My toilet seat also goes up when I approach which I also thought was unnecessary but I really got used to it after a few days and when I inadvertently turned the mechanism off, I really missed it until I called tech support the next morning :-). It's soft closing as well - another nicety I didn't realized I would like until I actually got it.

I like both of the leds that ci-lantro posted. We have one horizontal one over a 24" vanity in the standard 5' x 7' guest bathroom, with 10' ceilings, and it lights up the room more than adequately. Yes, there are additional high hats over the tub/shower, but unless someone is using the tub/shower, those lights are never turned on. Edit: PS - I love that tile and yes, fixtures should have square edges, not round.

BTW that fixture will give you HORRIBLE light in a bathroom, the glass will fog, and it will give off a very yellow light let alone a glare...... I seriously dislike clear glass vintage bulbs here and its just a trend .

The difference between 6” and 4” is roughly about 200 lumens - 6” are typically around 900 lumens and 4” around 700. So between the three cans it’s a 600 lumens difference which amounts to roughly one 50W light bulb. I don’t think that’s a huge difference personally. We have a windowless bathroom a touch bigger than yours (9x8) and we’re doing five 4” cans, two over the shower (it’s long and narrow - 70” long) and three in the room plus two LED sconces. Right now we have four 6” retrofits and it’s pretty bright.
